What dog would be best for me that is small/medium,great with kids, sheds minimally, easily trained, andfriendly?

With all the dogs I have had in my life I will say the most kid and people friendly is my American Pit Bull Terrier. She loves everyone. Medium sized at 55 lbs. Does not shed a lot.
I know what you are thinking "A Pit Bull?". There is good reason they are called the "Nanny Dog" as they are so great with kids. I have seen mine lay on the floor with my one month old grandson for an hour, she would not leave his side. Now that my grandson is a year old she will put her head in his hand and let him play with her ears while she licks his toes.
She loves everyone. Any stranger that comes to the door gets the same greeting as the family gets.
For a bit smaller dog a Beagle is a friendly clown. They can be pretty funny. They shed a bit more and are 20 to 30 lbs. When they get excited you will hear that hound howl. Here is a shot of my clown.

The other two dogs I had that were great with kids and loved everyone are probably bigger then you want. An Old English Sheepdog is a great people dog. Mine weighed in at 90 lbs.
I also had an Irish Wolfhound/Great Dane mix that loved everyone. She was 140 lbs.
Edit:
Forgot to mention my Pits name. Honey and she really is.
We got another Pit puppy two weeks ago and you are going to love her name, Lilly.
Get a shelter dog from a shelter that fosters dogs--not a kennel. They are already housetrained. Check petfinders.com.
umm..i am not exactly sure a a dog to fit all you are looking for. But i do know that Yorkies dont shed-like at all and they are small and can be very friendly. If you get the puppy young enough you will be able to trained it early. When you train dogs when they are older it tends to be harder.
good luck! =]
papillon! if that's how you spell it! they're perfect!!
check out a shih tzu. ours is friendly, obedient, minimal shedder, and great with my daughter
Well, not to burst your bubble, but I suggest revising your expectations.
Dogs are ANIMALS, living creatures. Although some breeds are generally easier to train/good with kids/friendlier than others, the main determinant of these things will be how much effort you put into selecting a good puppy and how much effort you put into raising, socializing and training it. And how well behaved your kids are.
Dogs that don't shed a lot tend to be the ones that need frequent (every 6-10 weeks) trips to the groomer. Around here for a small dog like a miniature poodle or bichon you're looking at $40-50 per visit.
People initially considering a dog often don't consider that dogs are, well, dogs and puppies are babies that will take a serious investment of time and effort. They WILL pee on your carpet until they are housebroken, they WILL chew up some of your stuff, they WILL puke on the couch, they WILL require grooming or they will be gross and smelly. They WILL need to see the vet occasionally. They WILL need to be taught how to behave properly, they aren't born with this knowledge. They will do dog things like sniffing crotches, licking themselves, barking, digging, rolling in gross stuff etc. People tend to have this vision of a low-maintenance dog, but dogs are high-maintenance. It's like having another kid.
That said, if you still want a dog I suggest that you start attending local dog shows so that you can see the dogs in person and meet and talk to people that actually own them. GOOD breeders will be more than happy to tell you about their breeds, the bad points as well as the good. If someone is telling you their breed has no problems, avoid them. GOOD breeders want to make sure that you and the dog are a good match. They want you to know what the problems are before you get the dog so that you can make an informed decision and not get rid of the dog because you didn't expect them to drool, shed or whatever.
Take your time selecting a breed and a breeder, your dog will hopefully live for 10-15 years so the investment in time will be well worth it in the long run.
Cavachon! They are a cross between a bichion frise and a king charles spaniel, they are so smart and friendly! Plus they don't hardly shed, when I wear black I don't have to use the roller after I pick up my puppy. Cavachons are a crossbreed so they have less health problems then a pure bred dog. Plus cavachons are fairly inexpensive and they are so cute and great with kids!
