took my dog to the vet and found out she is a diabetic. i administer insulin 2 x's a day. i was wondering what type of dog food will be good for her? or even treats that does not contain fatties? HELP!!
Answers:
It's best to have a feed schedule with 4 feedings a day. 2 feedings at the same time as your dogs injection. You can feed the food you are using and add a fiber supplement or use any of these listed brands and their respective treats
google these companies/ brand names
Prescription Diets w/d,
Science Diet Maintenance Light,
Theradiet Reducing (dry),
Purina Fit and Trim, Purina Dog Chow - Low Calorie Formula and Cycle 3 Light (canned).
(The canned version of Theradiet Reducing may have more than the optimal amount of fiber and this is also true of Prescription Diet r/d)
You can look up low calorie dog treats on the net which you can make and that makes shopping for treats a lot eaiser because you know exactly how they are being made.
My dog also used to love baby carrots!
Hope I could help!
I don't know of any food

The vet should have recommended something.
PRO PAC
I believe Merrick makes a food that gets good ratings for Diabetic dogs, but honestly... If you pick a food that is mostly protein and not grains/fats... You should be fine.

Good luck.
You may wish to consider a BARF diet for your dog. I know of several diabetic dogs who have done quite well on it.. especially when dried pancreas was added to the diet.
Google BARF for dogs, and diabetic BARF
I'm at work or I would give you the links.
Please make sure you contact the breeder.
the vet should definately know a few brands, call the secretary and see if she knows, and if the vet is available, ask him,
