What happened with my dog?

He was almost 13 and we got him put too sleep. He had alot of health problems, but what encouraged us to put him to sleep is we saw him weaving his head from side to side and he had trouble keeping his balance and his back legs were giving out, what was wrong with him? did he have a stroke or something?
Answers:
Most likely thing is a stroke. We had a dog that had one, then about a week later, another, and another, until one killed him. (he didn't suffer, he was just out of it). If it was that bad, then even if he did recover, he wouldn't have been the same, and would probably have had another. With the other health problems, you did the right thing. My heart goes out to you.
Sounds like maybe a seizure.
Sweet Pea had those same symptoms. The vets said they thought she had a stroke. Actually, she got better after 1 week in hospital. She didn't live that much longer as she had terminal cancer and was 15 years old. I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you. I am sure you did the right thing.
Well there could be alot of different things going on. He could of had a bad back, hip dyspepsia, or just very old.
OMG! now i feel sad! i think its a stroke. u did the right thing.
dogs do not typically have strokes. vets use this terminology to help us people understand what's happened since the syptoms are around the same. often in dogs it's called vestibular disease. it causes many of the problems you described. it can be treated sometimes with steriod therapy. but often there isn't much else you can do. with other health issues and then the nerological problems, it sounds like you did the most humane thing for your pet. it's never easy, but it seems like the dog had a loving caring owner and there wasn't anything else he could ask for. i'm very sorry for your loss.
you didn't say what kind of dog it was, but generally speaking, the larger the dog, the shorter the life span.
I think you may have had one of the larger breeds, because that just sounds like "typical" elderly behaviour. you did the right thing to put him out of his misery, if that's any consolation.
