What do you think golden retrievers are the best dogs or not?

Answers:
Well Ginbark like they say different strokes for different folks.
Golden's I have have never been boring and just lumps of a dogs. My Golden's are active and high spirited! They are very smart and have been a part of my life for a very long time! I have been able to not only work with them but have also enjoyed all their traits which I have been able to bring out in my Golden's. I have never found them boring or have they even come close to that.
They are very smart and easy to train, and they retain what they learn.
They do have grooming needs like any other dog but their loyalty makes up for that 10 fold.
The have been a family favorite for a very long time and they are still.
if u r looking for a dog whi homely or who is too cute
and wont shout quite frequently then golden retriever and labradog are the best options
but remember to check their breeds
To me they are probably the best breed out there, but their are many others that are just as good. Retrievers are good because they are calm, playful, they enjoy being in the water, they are not too aggressive, and they love being around humans. They play nicely with little kids also.
great family dogs, grew up with a golden i remember him being really lazy though. Spent most of his time in the pool or sleeping, sweet dog though.
There is no best breed just the best dog or breed for that person/family at that time. Personally I would never own a Golden, they are BORING. I need a more challenging less wimpy dog.
personally i think bichon frise's are the best dogs around. they're really friendly, intelligent, cute, affectionate and playful. only thing is they are really pricy... worth it though.
Not. Goldens may be the best dog for some people, but they just don't do anything for me. I'm not sure why. I would say it's because I don't like big goofy hairy dogs who shed a lot and stay puppyish for years. But, then again I like German shepherds and that can be said of many (especially male) GSD's as well. Maybe it's that I'm not interested in a breed that will fawn over anyone and everyone they meet. I like my dogs to be ok with and even a little friendly with strangers if the situation warrants it, but I don't think I want a dog that would happily go home with any person they meet on the street. They're often great dogs, I just have absolutely no desire to live with one.

What do you think attracts someone to thier pet?

Ever notice some dogs look like their owners? LOL
Just curious what attracted you to your dog? why do you think that is? and any examples of others and why they chose their pet?
My grandma and her OLD poodle kinda look alike, both have short white frizzy curly hair.. LOL
Answers:
Skye %26 i both run around all day.
I wouldnt mind if someone siad i looked like her because shes damm pretty but hope to god they dont say we smell the same .she stinks!
me and my dog are both white, skinny, and have big brown eyes. yeah, i'd say we look alike! :D
Well me and my dog don't have any similarities (haha!) but I chose him cause of his personality.
Although...he is Italian Greyhound and Chihuahua...and I am mostly Italian with a little Hispanic...so we match there.

What do you think about this tshirt?

I am getting tshirts made for a non profit dog rescue. Here.s the link.
https://www.customizedgirl.com/cgi-bin/m...
We are having someone local make them for 40$ for 5 though.
Also the white box will not be around the logo. What do you think?
Answers:
Cool tee-shirts.
My dog's rescue group sold me a "Got Dog" fitted tee-shirt with the website of the rescue group underneath... it's my favorite tee-shirt.
Nice to spread the good words!
i really like it it dosnt beat around the bush it is just there
When you click on the link, the shirt doesn't show.
It's adorable.
I like it! Message is short %26 sweet, and the colors stand out. It's a nice, retro text design too!
I think you need a lighter background- the logo will be hard if not impossible to see on that colour without the white box.
Its okay
I like it! It gets the message through to people.
That shirt is hot. That will really work.

What do you think about this obedience trainer in my area?

He offers 3 different types of training. The one I am interested in is where he keeps my dog for half of the week. He showed me his german shepherd and all of the things my dog will learn.. I want that in my dog. Should I do it? The trainer will help me in making my dog obey me as well. The only problem is.. do you think that it will be less effective since I'm not there?
I can't go through with weekly classes. It'd be embarassing and annoying. I have a 2 y/o mini dachshund that does not like stranger's (to the extent of biting). All of my other dogs are great! I don't want him to bite a 2nd victim and get a law suit or have him taken away.
Answers:
Your dog has bitten and his problem is not a training issue. Any qualified professional will diagnose this as an advanced behavior problem that requires you to be involved in all aspects of the behavior modification that is usually a very long process, although you have not given enough information for anyone to really know the extent of what's going on and how serious it may be. A diagnosis needs to be made face to face with a qualified trainer and will probably require an intake that may last up to two hours. There is no reason to be embarrassed, but this dog cannot be in a "normal" training class among other people and dogs, based on the small amount of information you have given. Please seek the advice of a qualified trainer who has extensive experience in behavioral issues (aggression and biting). There are many people in the same situation as you. It is emotionally difficult for both you and your dog, I'm sure. Dogs bite when they feel they have no other options left. It is not a moral issue. Your dog is not a "bad" dog. ALL dogs have the capacity to bite and will bite, no matter how nice they are or how well trained they are when all other options have either been exhausted or cut off from them, or they have a physical ailment. "Aggression" is an emotional issue that stems from a combination of fear and/or stress, and anxiety, or it may sometimes be biologically driven. The particulars of it range for each dog and their situation (ie. resource guarding, on-leash-aggression, self-body-guarding, location-guarding, stranger aggression, dog-dog aggression, barrier-frustration). Treatment is usually done in the form of classical conditioning by way of systematic desensitization and counter-conditioning. Additional components in a treatment modification program will and should include anxiety-lowering measures (daily exercise that raises heart rate for a minimum of 30 minutes per day, work-to-eat puzzles, buster-cubes, fetch, tug with rules, hide n' seek, etc), management (setting up the environment so he does not fail, for example if he has bitten children when he is eating then you would never have children around when he is eating, have him behind baby-gates or in an ex-pen with food, etc. when you are not actively working on the specific treatment program), and suspending all reinforcing events (in this case, situations that lead him to exhibit aggressive behavior). Note that any type of modification program for aggressive behavior should never include any type of aversives in the form of positive punishment, and any trainer who would suggest otherwise is not competent to help you with your situation. You may want to contact a veterinary behaviorist, if there is one in your area, or perhaps do a trainer search on the APDT website. You still must, however, choose wisely. Not all trainers are alike and just because they sound confident does not mean that they have the necessary knowledge to help you. Find a trainer who understands learning theory, how it works, and how to apply it. Again, this is not a training issue and it is not a quick fix that can be solver within a couple of weeks. It will take everyone's commitment and time, but the alternative will be more emotionally and physically draining for both you and your dog, not to mention the liability issue and heartbreak if he bites again and causes real harm to another person. Good for you for realizing that you need to seek help. A dog that bites or is constantly in a state of anxiety is not a happy, healthy dog. This is not going to "go away" by itself and will probably become worse with time if nothing is done to address it. There is lots of good (and bad) information out there. You may also want to read some books by Jean Donaldsen to help you understand a little more about what you may be up against and to try and get a better grasp on the immediacy of the situation. Try going to the San Francisco SPCA website for some basic guidance and call them to see if they can help refer you to a competent trainer in your area. Good luck and shove the embarrassment aside for the sake of you and your dog's mental well-being, and the safety of others.
I am a firm believer in training your own dog.
one... even though someone tells you about their methods, does not guarentee they use them when you are not around.
two... training is a special bonding time. Why give that away?
three... how are you going to learn how to handle the dog should he back slide and start messing up again.
Please, train your own dog. If you think that it is going to be embarrassing and annoying to go to weekly classes and work with your dog every day, how annoying and embarrassing is it going to be when you are stuck somewhere not knowing for sure how to handle a situation so your dog has to go back to live with the trainer for a week or so? I would be more annoyed and embarrassed that i could not handle my own dog when he relapses. (and they all do it to some degree)
Everyone i know that has tried the method of letting a trainer train the dog had to still be trained themselves and then they had to send the dog back for brushups.
Take the time and deal with your dog with a great trainer by your side.
I would especially since you have to do none of the work and show up at a class. That is cool.
It's important that the trainer shows you how to handle your dog. I believe you might be having difficulties communicating with your dog because your technique is poor. Training classed and a good trainer will fix both you and your dog.
I have known numberous people who have had this type of training done on their dogs and it is essentially useless. If you don't know how to train your dog it doesn't matter what someone else does to your dog, it will never listen to you. I have trained dogs for a half century plus - have held public and private classes and 99% of the training is the person, not the dog. The dog picks up fast when it is properly cued and worked with but the person takes a lot of training. It isn't 'embarrassing' to learn - were you embarrassed to learn to read and write in school? This is no different - you have to learn. It isn't that the dog doesn't understand your english - the dog can tell what you want because you are not consistently and properly training it. English/Spanish/German/whateve... isn't dog language so they have to learn - their primary language is body language and regardless of what words you use if your body tells them something else, that is what they will hear. YOU need to get to classes. YOU are allowing your dogs to be a nuisance to the public and you should be sued for being a dangerous dog owner and neglecting their care. Go to weekly classes with a good trainer and learn to train your dog - that is a daily thing - not just weekly - You go weekly but you train daily.
His German Shephard does those things because he trained it - if you want your dog to do those things then go to the classes and learn how to train your dog. I think that as usual the hardest part will be training you as you have preconceived ideas that don't relate well to dog training and you are putting your ego into the situation instead of wanting to do what is best for the dog.
Hi Plastic flowers,
I do not think that any body should leave their dog with a trainer no matter how good the trainer thinks he/she is.
In halve a week I do not think that any body can train a 2 year old to the level you was promised. You did not mention what method was explained to you that this trainer will use to train the dog.
I trained my Border Collie from nothing and as I was not experienced I know what I went through to get him to the stage he is now. He is CDX titled and working for his UD title. I now use the reward system because the old pull and jerk system that I was taught at the obedience school I first attended with him did not work. I think that this trainer will use a heavy handed method to try and break your dog, I do not see why you cannot be there to learn what the trainer is doing to the dog and besides any trainer should train the handler to train the dog so that the handler and the dog will acquire respect for each other. There is no embarrassment in training your dog only enjoyment.

What do you think about them?

i think that people really need to stop putting pitbulls down its just not fear. pitbulls are only mean if they were abused or if some one raised them that way. i have seen way to meany sweet pitbulls at the pound and i feel so bad for them i want to take them all home. and i know why people are scared of them but. dont hate them from what you hear about them. they can be such sweet hearts. give them a chance. they are good dogs.
what do you think about them.?
Answers:
I KNOW THIS IS LONG BUT PLEASE READ!! JUST HEAR ME OUT!!Now dont get me wrong with what im about to tell you, because im a total dog lover!! But a violent and deadly dog should not be loose! Now it is a proven fact that pit bulls, boxers, german shepard. and a couple of other big breed of dogs do have a high tendancy to turn on people because many people train them to be guard or watch dogs! Now many of the cases you probably have heard about have been the ones where a pit bull has been trained to be a guard dog has gotten out and attacked people! Now i also know from experience that is one of the worst things that could happen to a person! A very clost personal friends little 3 yr old was walking up to a friends with his dad and was brutally attacked by a german sheperd! The dog had never attacked anyone before yet it turned on this little boy and bit down on his head, The little boy was rushed to the hospital and is now doing ok, but they put the dog down. In this case i beleive this dog should have been put down because it almost took this little boys life. Sorry i went on so much but i wanted to kind of express both sides of the situation that you expressed! 鈾?
Any kind of dog can be sweet it is all in the way u train and raise them not all pit bulls are aggressive like I said it is how u train them if your abusive to them yes then they will be mean, But pit bulls can be a lovable companion..
pitbulls are great dogs
any dog can be a sweet dog but since people have decided to train pitbulls to fight, they often appear on the media as viscious, flesh eating dogs when in fact they are very sweet.
i never put pitbulls down, i wouldnt mind one
I think they are so wonderful and loyal. I wish I could have one but unfortunately my living situation wont allow it. I had the pleasure of seeing 6 of them being born last year. They were so so cute and they've all grown up to be beautiful loving dogs. If you get the opportunity to own one, then you should. You wont be sorry. Its about time pit bulls get positve feedback!
i have seen far more injuries from toy poodles and shih tzus than pit bulls and other larger breeds. bigger dogs just have bigger mouths that can cause more damage. it does not mean that breed is more agressive than another. It does not matter what the breed. unless it is taught right from wrong it wont know right from wrong. I trust the "bully breed" dogs that come in to my work much more than the toy breeds to not try and tear a chunk out of my face.
Right on I agree with you 100% and then some. They are sweet dogs treat them right make them part of your family and they are the most loyal dogs I know. I understand peoples fears but they are scared of what they don't know.
They Listen to all media exploiting this breed of dogs. But we as Pit Bull owners (I have APBT from the shelter) have to do our part in keeping our dogs out of trouble. Needs to be strict laws on people that mistreat or train these dogs wrong.
Mine is great shes fun loving goofy loyal and obedient because we took the time and trained her that way.
They do need to be given a chance they truly are misunderstood with mistaken identity's
any and every dog can be sweet! i've only had a pug and a boxer and a siberian husky and i'm only 14...but not at the same time. :] but ur right! those dogs are only meen cause their owners or someone has been meen to them before! and i've heard that hitting, screaming, yelling and locking them up in cages is never ever the answers! that only meens they are going to get back at you one day and that that only makes certain dogs be afraid of you
or like the pitbull...it could hurt you!!
THIS IS FOR ALL PITBULL OWNERS AND JUST DOG OWNERS!!
HITTING,YELLING,SCREAMING AND LOCKING THEM UP IN CAGES IS NEVER THE ASNWER! ITS NOT GOING TO TRAINT THEM IS THATS WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT! THEY ARE GOING TO GET BACK AT YOU ONE DAY WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT! AND THERE PROMISE IS KEPT!! BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU DO.BUT PUNISHING IS NOT THE ANSWER!! PATIENCE AND REWARDS IS!!
It depnds on the owner, and the dogs temperement. But pitbulls have it already in them. Unfortunately.
People are afraid of pitbulls because they have a tendency to snap. This is not a fault of the specific breed but because at the moment they are a popular dog. Any time a particular breed becomes popular they breed the dogs as fast as they can to make money. The problem is that they tend to severely inbreed thier dogs, resulting in mental problems. An inbred dog can act normally for years, but because of some mental birth defect one day snap for no obvious reason.
This is true of any popular breed, especially "junk-yard" dogs: dobermans, rottwielers, pitbulls, bulldogs, german shepards, etc.
As long as you pay attention to the blood line and are sure that any inbreeding is slight, the dog should be perfectly sane.
(I'm not completely sure I explained that well, but I tried.)
First of all, to the person who said they have seen more injuries from toy poodles and shih tzus... that is so stupid, do you watch the news or read the paper at all? There have been many deaths and horrible injuries from these dogs and your ignorance is like an insult to the people who have been affected by these attacks. I have to agree with Cjack. Some breeds just have that trait. It does have a TON to do with how they are trained/raised but it can also just be part of the dogs character. And of course they LOOK sweet any dog can look sweet. I have seen lots of sweet looking dogs and you reach down to pet them and they snap at you. I absolutely love dogs and I don't think that the whole breed of pit-bulls should be taken out or anything. There needs to be more efforts to stop the illgal dog fighting to take the whole breed in a different direction over time by breeding more even tempered dogs than ones bred to fight. They are gorgeous dogs and deserve a chance.
my favorite dogs are rottweilers %26 pitbulls !! but i prefer a rottweiler, over the pitbull because of their size. i think pitbulls are nice dogs. it's the owners who mistreat them, and turn them to become aggressive !! i hate people who use them poor dogs, for dogfighting !! they need to get locked up for a long time. any dog will bite when mistreated !! it's sad how they only mention, negative things about pittbulls %26 rottweilers !! when even german shepards attack, and killed people in the past !! it's sad how now they try and ban, both the rottweilers %26 pitbulls !!
I think they are awesome Dogs. They are a great Representative for or Great Marines. I like the one in the comic Beetle Bailey. All dogs are great. It's how they are bred and raised that screws them up. That's how Pit Bulls got on the bad boy list. Their upbringing. Same goes for any dog. I have a Lab/mix with Border Collie. I could have made her a vicious dog if I wanted to. But she is a compassionate dog. She is my Service dog. And one day she was attacked from behind. Out from nowhere this big (I want to say Great Dane but I'm not sure) came and got her. I was trained to do this in that situation, let go of her leash, which I did and she defended us the best she could. I saw something I didn't think she was capable of. She was as vicious as that dog. I hope never to see her like that again. I haven't. That was about five years ago.

What do you think about the petsafe wireless instant fence?

we are thinking of getting it
Answers:
I have known many dogs that went right thru the fence. My g/f's MinPin went thru her invisible fence and broke her leg, twice. It does nothing to prevent stray dogs form coming over, beating up your dog and leaving feces and fleas. At my dog obed class there was a man with a Rott and he sold Invisible Fences, he bragged about how wonderful they were so I told him I didn't belive in them. Lots of dogs will blow thru the fence after another dog or squirrel and if they are not HBC when they try to go back into their yard they get shocked. This teaches them home=shock so they can not get home and are on the road. He poo pooed my objections and said he Rott never went thru it. Two years later he was back at class with a different Rott, he saw me and told me I had been right and he no longer sold the fences. His Rott went thru the fence after a cat and was killed by the car going by. The one and only time in 2 yrs he went thru he was killed. He installed a chain link fence b4 he go this new dog.
If you are really into it then buy it! But from experience they don't fully work. The dog will not know it at first but he is able to escape. In time he will learn that he can run throught the fence and get free. And my dog did and he was hit by a car, but managed to walk all the way back to my house and die on my deck. :(
If you mean the type of fence that alerts the dog he's reached the boundary of his territory via a "buzz" or mild shock through his collar, I guess they work well enough. Only problem is, it allows other stray dogs and animals onto your property ( since they're not wearing a control collar, and there's no fence boundary to stop them ) and fights and other problems could ensue. If your dog tried to defend himself from another dog, then followed him to maybe continue the fight, he would get the signal through the collar repeatedly, and that isn't really fair, is it ? I'd rather have the dog safely contained behind a fence, because I assume these collars can sometimes fail due to sudden power outages, etc. , then your dog could conceivably wander out into traffic, too. They may seem like a good idea, but are they?
Do not use a wireless fence. The technology sucks and it does not work. I am a dealer for Pet Stop Brand fencing and I would rather see someone buy from any of my competitors than to get one of the wireless ones. Electronic fencing works. I have been involved with this type of fencing for well over 5 years and I have a 100% containment rating.
If you would like more information you can visit www.petstop.com
I just bought one the other week. I think it works good i have a pittbull and a dobberman. They arent the biggest dogs but they arent little either. At first it spooked them but after a few days they had it figured out. I was just out a minute ago and some kids came by and my pittbull ran right through it but i quickly relized i had it set on the low level since i figured they new the boudries basically im saying they will try to get out but if you set it on the right level they will stay in your yard. Im 100% satisfied with the system and think it is safe. Dont think of it as a shock from a outlet think of it as a gag lighter that shocks you. if you want to build a fence go ahead if you want to send him to dog training goahead but this system works and has proved itself to me. Enjoy your fence!

What do you think about the dog meat industry?

The ones in Korea, China, Vietnam.
I know lots of people say "to each his own" but I think the way the dogs are killed is very cruel. I don't believe in the "to each his own" theory because I believe in pure good and pure evil. I don't believe in gray areas. I think the way the dogs are killed is pure evil and there is nothing good about it at all. I don't care if it is another culture. It is still cruelty to animals.

Those who say "it's a different culture and deserves respect" needs to know that many Koreans work for more humane laws and for animal rescue.
In the past, different cultures have tolerated human sacrifice, cannibalism, slavery; don't these also qualify for respect?
I personally think its horrible and disgusting.
In China, they cut the dogs open alive, then hang them alive by their feet to let the blood soak out.
Some people would also consider us eating cows evil, but cows are nowhere near as intelligent as a dog, they're basically all instinct, no thought process in a cow, they're not conscious.
There are french islands where people use dogs and puppies as bait. They put hooks through the live puppy and throw them in the water to fish for sharks. Its horrible
I hate how any animal is killed! Yes it is VERY wrong to eat dogs! Why would any one want to! I can't picture eating my puppy! I HATE IT!
I don't agree with killing dogs for food. That said, if what you disagree with is only how the animals are killed, I expect that you do not eat chicken, beef, turkey, pork, etc? Because many of these animals are butchered in an inhumane way for mass production of meat that we consume on a daily basis.
I think that all meat industrys are equally cruel it does not make a difference if the animal is "cute" or not. It is only sick to some people because they keep dogs for pets. It does sound horrific, I know what you mean somehow.
EWW Thats What i think, it is cruel, i argree. Think About Your Dog Being Hung And Sluaghtered
While I don't agree with the practice, I do not believe the people are evil.
It is definitely cruelty and is awful how those dogs are treated, but I truthfully believe the people who do those things do not know any better. They are not evil, but their acts may be. They are ignorant people, but even ignorance is not a total excuse.
Well, this is a hard topic, because it is easy to say that eating dog meat is wrong, yet our own country kills millions of dogs each year.
To me, it is not eating dogs that is immoral, but rather the way they are killed and kept before death.
I grew up with a dad that hunted elk for food. We were taught by him to repsect these animals and that they should be killed as humanely as possible and that no meat should be wasted as that was disrespectful to the life that was given for us to eat.
I am not against using animals as food, but they deserve a good life before they become food, and they deserve the basic respect of inflicting as little pain as possible when killing them for food.
I also expect the same treatment of our food animals like beef cows, pigs, chickens, etc., and do my part to only buy free range chicken and such.
Hopefully these countries will start to feel the same way, but we are not much better here. Animals suffer needlessly in this country all the time. Tortured animals are brought into shelters regularly, and many die without ever receiving help.
I pray that the cruelty all over the world will soon end, but there is still much to be done.
Hunting for substinance and organic farming are not cruel. Factory farming, squeeze cages, overcrowding, insufficient trailers, 'stun bolts', electrocutions, and kosher slaughters are inhumane and cruel. I agree that the way foreign countries slaughter animals is at least as cruel as the way we do it. As for dogs or horses, I cannot in the least understand how they differentiate between the ones they keep as pets and the ones they put on the table. I certainly couldn't do it.
I'm sorry, but if you think that everything is black and white, your life must be pretty bad.
Yes, they eat dogs and cats, but that's their culture and should be respected.
Do you want them to come over here and tell us how to live our lives? That is what would happen if we were to go over there and tell them to quit eating dog and cat.
What the Hell?!
I thought that was just a myth!
I never knew there was really a dog meat industry, my gosh.
The dogs are slaughtered like pigs and cows in America right?
Think of how they look at us for that?
They don't always hold dogs as pets in the same way Americans do.
What do you think they think of the beef, poultry and pork industries over here, which is booming with millions of dollars here?
I think that people in some other nations look at us in disgust for eating cows. When we point one finger at someone else, we have four pointing back at ourselves. The way we slaughter cows and pigs is cruel too. I'm not sure there is a kind way to slaughter meat animals.
We spend lots of money on pets while people in third world countries starve. We have programs to give medical care for pets while poor people here go without. Other nations have a lot to look at us and judge too. We should stop being so arrogant and take a good look in the mirror.
There are cultural differences in the world. I do not like this practice at all. Not one bit. But, I do not believe we can push our values on other societies.
What is taboo here may be a way of life in other countries.
Some of these countries are dirt poor, so anything moving that is not human is considered food.

What do you think about racing dogs?

Here is a link to a local story. Tell me what you think?
http://www.local6.com/news/13961118/deta...
Answers:
Before I read t he story: I think racing dogs are . . . really fast
After I read the story: I still think racing dogs are really fast and I think human beings are sh--s on Earth
I dont like racing dogs. :( It's sad. Even without looking at that article, I don't like it. The article certainly makes me mad at the owner of the place.
Greyhounds are soooo sweet.. and these people just raised these dogs to burn them out as much as possible in the first few years. I wish they would outlaw it.
I have a friend who has adopted two racing greyhounds...being around her has given me a very negative feeling towards racing and how the dogs are treated. This is very upsetting...to hear that they had been given cocaine and not properly cared for after a race. My thoughts? Outrage and anger that dogs...any dogs.are treated this way. I just don't agree with it at all.

What do you think about PETA?

Just curious about what everyone's opinion on PETA.
Answers:
In my opinion, PETA is a horrible group! I absolutely despise them.
PETA is an extremist group. They say they have the best interest of the animals in mind, but I don't believe it. Although I have no proof of it, I would suspect that many of their "under-cover videos" are even staged, which is sad.
They also don't think people should have pets. There's no way I could support that.
PETA kills animals: http://www.petakillsanimals.com/...
I also could never NEVER support a group that intentionally inflicts psychological damage to children and tries to get to the parents by USING the children and attempting to make the children fearful of their own parents. They have handed out the following comics to children:
You Mommy Kills Animals - http://www.furisdead.com/feat-momfur.asp...
Your Daddy Kills Animals - http://www.fishinghurts.com/feat-newcomi...
I don't have all the information handy, but at one point a year or so ago, I decided to read through the PETA site. What I found was a wealth of mis-information and information skewed to support their "cause".
In short, they are a destructive group that go about things completely the wrong way. They "protest" by interfering with others in ways that should not be done.
* They disrupted VS fashion show a couple years ago: http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/11/1...
* Although they have discontinued the practice, they used to attack people with spray-paint that were wearing fur coats. (Their website now says "if you have a fur coat, donate it to a homeless person.")
(There are numerous other examples, you can do a search on the internet and find them.)
.
They are currupt %26 do NOTHING for animals!
I don't think much of them, and I think the ways they try to deliver their messages often are so extreme that it backfires on me. Actually, I don't think very well of them at all.
Where I come from, good girls don't say such words...
I'm not a good girl, but yahoo will just edit those words out.
I see it the same way I see religion. The potential to be beneficial is there...some people just take it a little too far.
I don't have a doubt most of the people in the organization care very much for animals, I just think their obsessiveness sometimes causes them to make poor choices.
Heads full of air.
Eh..I like what they do, and I understand to a certain degree I mean I don't like testing human products on animals (such as makeup and shampoo) but I think that if animal testing will help save the lives of millions of people, why not? They're so hypocritical that it annoys me. I mean 'save the animals don't use them for testing' yet one of the uppity ups uses insulin (which was discovered due to animal testing) I mean if she's such a big PETA person, she should just stop using insulin and die...
they do nothing good
I think PETA is great; for once; people are standing up for animals; and trying to end testing on them and cruelty towards them;
although; i've heard rumours of bad things they've done;
I agree with them about some things. I wish to stop animal abuse. But I think that sometimes they are just way over the top. They believe that no animals should be kept as pets, they feel that they all belong in the wild. I personally like my pets, and I know they like living with me. They are also over the top in a lot of other ways too.
They get a little fanatical at times. Their premise is great, I'm all for it. But sometimes they go a little over the top.
I've heard some things from people.
Peta Eats Tasty Animals
People Eat Tasty Animals
Without them, this World would be a lot worse for our animal friends... PS They've been after Michael Vick for years...
They are corrupt, have no interest in the protection of animals at all, They are a terriost group according to the US goverment.
They take unknowing people money and spend it on themselves not on any animals at all.
There a fraud agains all animal rights.
I dont support them and I never will.
pen and teller did a cool show on them, here is the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9ijlulwu...
PETA is a joke, just like the supporters who have pets. Far too many people don't understand the difference between animal welfare and animal rights. If you're going to support something, you better make certain you know what it's about.
Animal Activist or Animal Advocate?
Animal RIGHTS or Animal WELFARE?
Do YOU know the difference?
http://www.ncraoa.com/ar_vs_aw.html...
After I saw the pictures of what they did to the animals I decided to not like them.
I'm all against animal cruelty, however I see benefit from animal testing. Not the painful cruel 'testing' but the actual experiments that test drugs that could cure millions.
To me PETA is on the same level of fanaticism as the 9/11 terrorists and the like. Be against animal cruelty, but not to the point of being cruel to humans to make a point (although PETA usually goes so overboard they don't really make one.)
Christinia L said everything I wanted to say, and she said it perfectly.
PETA is a big joke. They are a terrorist group that wants to do away with animal ownership. They complain about animal rights, they do their fair share of killing pets. I don't support PETA, %26 never will.
You are aware that PETA is on the terrorist watch list I presume.
The reality is that PETA wants ALL animal exploitation stopped. This means everything, what you eat, the pets you have, the animals that serve you in any way.
PETA doesn't care one iota about your animals, their only concern is which barn to burn next.
Initially, it was all about and for the best interest of the animals. Now... they've got their priorities all screwed up!
There are many private small breeders that shouldn't have dogs let alone have the knowledge to breed responsibly, which makes all (most) reputable, responsible, ethical breeders look just as bad, but if Peta would put forth a little effort in shutting down Commercial Breeders and Puppymills, the BYB'ing would significantly shrink also. Low cost, poor quailty purebreds wouldn't be as readily available, therefore reducing the overpopulated shelter %26 rescues.
JMO
They are terroristic nuts.
Fanatics, like all terrorists, cause more damage than good, regardless of their motives. It is a shame that we can't have a happy medium in the protection of animals.

What do you think about mutts?

i love them prubreed bredds are usally uptight becuase there is a demand for them i have a coockpoo. also do they make mini goldendooldes
Answers:
I love mutts. I own 2 of them. Both lab/blue heeler mixes. One more heeler, one more lab. Great dogs and I love them dearly. They were both rescued. I would not have paid an unscrupulous breeder for these dogs. Not that my dogs aren't worth it but because the breeders are crook and I will not reward them for their unscrupulous breeding practices. I also own purebred chihuahuas. If I was going to spend hundreds or thousands on a dog it would be on chihuahuas not on mutts. And for those who think mutts are healthier, that is just a lot of bull. Chihuahuas often live to be 20+ years old. My chihuahuas seldom need to see a vet. Usually it is for shots, or a spay/neuter. My mutts are also healthy, but a lot of the dogs' health has to do with the care they receive.
I love mutts, they are unique.
wwwwhhhaaattt?
Mutts are just as good as any type of dog!! Who cares that they aren't purebreed? Most Americans aren't 100% French, Irish, Russian, German, English etc!
Mutts rock
I love mutts, but don't think they should be purposely bred.
There are enough that are accidents and strays.
Did you know that an estimated 3-4 MILLION dogs are put to sleep every year in the US because they don't have homes?
75% of them are mutts.
i have a cockapoo also ! i think they make mini goldendoodles
mutts are awseome!!!
Mutts are good too.. but they should not be purposly bred.. there are plenty of cute mutts in the shelters that need homes.
Mutts are awesome. Plus they usually live longer than purebreds
I love ALL dogs purebred or not. All dogs are special and unique. I have purebreds and they are they are not uptight they are total goof balls.
I will take a mutt anytime over a purebreed. I have two chihuahuas but they are mixed with rat-terrier. I have a lab but she is mixed with a another breed. They are loving, smart and haven't gotten sick. Mutts rarely get sick.
i dont really like mutts..and yes the make mini goldendooldes
there awesome dogs, but are not worth as much as purebreeds. And i shame those people who love mutts so much that they start backyard breeding them cause they end up in shelters. usually purebreeds rarely end up in a shelter. so i prefer purebreeds over mutts, cause i know what i have, i want to be prepared. and no offense buut usually most5 purebreeds end up prettier then mutts, but then again beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!
I think all dogs are great, pure or mutt. Mutts are great though cause the phsyical appearance could always be a toss up til maturity.
I hate designer breeders and the ignorant people that buy them. If you want a mutt there are plenty of them at the shelter. The people that breed thease designer mutts at just doing it for money, no health guarentee, no x-ray testing. There just not healthy at all.
"Uptight?"
Um, no.
Mutts should not be intentionally bred. You have a mutt. Not a breed, a mutt. A mutt you could've adopted at the shelter for a LOT less money, and saved a life by doing so. Instead, you supported a backyard breeder/puppymill. Nice job.
It's spelled PUREBREDS, by the way.
No such thing as a mini mutt, sorry. Although, you might can find another breeder willing to tell you they breed mini mutts and take your money!
cool cool
I love mutts. Each one is different and they have a heck of a lot less health issues than purebreeds do. Too much inbreeding. There are so many homeless dogs out there that need homes I don't see the point of spending thousands of dollars on a dog when you can go to the pound and rescue a mutt, sometimes even a purebred.
mutts are usually healthier and so much cuter
i for one love mutts! they're the best kind (in my opinion)! pleanty of love to give and if you rescue on from a shelter they'll love you for life!
I love mutts they are much better then purebred and mutts are much smarter!! they also have much less health issues then purebred. and it is better going to your local shelter and picking up an animal because your saving an animal who needs a home!!
I think mutts can sometimes be unique and beautiful... Temperament could be anything. Health usually is better than pure-breds.
Yes, there are mini-goldendoodles.
ok, designer dogs (which are the mutts you are referring too) are not cool in the least bit. There should be no reason to intentionally cross breed. However, if you are referring to the dog that get adopted at the pound, then that's awesome. I understand people choose certain breeds over another due to lifestyle, which is fine, because it is part of a responsible decision. You should never buy a certain dog just because it the "cool" thing to do and some douche bad celeb was seen toting one around.
It should be pure breeds or rescues. That's the way to go.
You can think what you want about your mixed breed dogs.. that's entirely your right..
I believe mutts are perfectly fine, have met plenty that are wonderful dogs.. I don't have a problem with ANY dog, once it's here.. I do however have a problem with the people that feel that they should be breeding mutts.. It adds nothing to the dog population. It degrades both breeds, and it creates more unwanted, out of control dogs that end up dying cause no one wants them.. A litter of 8 is born, you take one, and no one else wants the rest.. Where do they go?? They end up dead.. Or they are adopted out and then returned to the shelter because they are uncontrollable dogs that DO SHED...
I like the purebred, all the time, thought and work that has been put into producing a proper breed.. I like that there is consistency and you know what you are getting when you buy a dog..
I think if people want to breed their mutts.. They should go about it the right way.. They should breed for more than just cute or non shedding.. They should breed for a consistency and they should produce a standard, and should be able to consistently produce the same dogs.. They should apply to the kennel club to be accepted.. If they can't go about it the right way and produce a proper breed of dog with consistency.. they are producing mutts and are puppymills..
You must be very young. Do you realize what you are saying when you say you don't care if they are bred on purpose? You need to go do some homework on puppymills and backyard breeders. If you were aware of how some of these "cute" mutts are brought into this world, you might change your mind.
And anything called a "minigoldendoodle" doesn't sound very healthy to me.
There are, however, many very cute purebred dogs in shelters (yes Chocolate_Rain-you should visit a shelter sometime and watch the purebreds get euthanized), so instead of trying to get one of the new "fad" dogs, why don't you stop at your local shelter and take a look at all those cute and some, beautiful, faces in there waiting to go home with someone?
Also, purebreds that are "uptight" are probably not from reputable breeders, who make sure they breed for temperament and personality.
The conclusion here is that there are some great mutts and some great purebreds! I love them all, and just wish everyone did, so we would have fewer of them in rescue!

What do you think a German Shepard/Black Lab would look like?

We are thinking of getting a German Sherpard/Black Lab what do you think it might look like!
Answers:
Well.. I have a black lab mix, and the vet things she's mixed with German Shepherd... so here's some pics The first 2 she is about 4 months old, the last 2 she's about 2 months old.

It will look like a half German shepherd half lab. You cannot tell it might be big like a German shepherd and look like a lab or it might be small and look like a German shepherd or it could look like both in one.
A d@mn good looking dog!!
my neigbor has one he kinda looks like a rottie mix
it will lean more towords the black lab...his ears will not know if they should lay or stand...and should have a great personality...suggest to the owners of the female to encourage all the new puppy owners to get their dog fixed...there are an abundance of shepherd lab mixes in shelters.
My Aunt Nancy has one. They are beautiful! Beautiful, and HUGE! He stands 4 feet tall on all fours. His name is Duke. He looks more black lab than german shepherd, but he is sooooo beautiful!
Absolutely gorgeous. LOL I like labs and I liek german shepards, and in my opinion most dogs are cute..
it could look like anything, but I'm sure its cute,. what it looks like should NOT be the reason you get it or not. CAN YOU HANDLE IT? Thats the question You need to answer!
black and brown, medium to large sized,
The GS / Lab mix I had was built like a Lab, but marked like a GS...A very beautiful lady.
I think it would look cute as a button. I have a full blooded GSD and I love him with all my heart. I've had many Labs also. I think you will be pleased. They are both highly intelligent canines so how can you go wrong?
Go to your local shelter, they are full of black lab mixed dogs.
At least the one in our city is.

What do you know about yorkshire terriers?

hi its me again about yorkies. i need to know everything there is about yorkshire terriers. if you know anything about yorkies give me any thing from 1 little tip to 10000000000000 tips aany thing will help (i just dont feel like reserching) and give me really good answers and i will choose you as best answer
Answers:
Actually, I have a 14 pound Yorkie and a pup who is
already 7 pounds at 7 months! They actually come
in all shapes and sizes as I asked my Vet.
They are very loveable but some are very hyper like
my pup! She was spayed and still hasn't calmed down very much. I entertain her with a ball that is
called The Best Ball which I got through Amazon.
She loves it. Neither of them shed at all. They
sometimes like to follow you and get under your feet
so you have to be careful. Mine like to eat just
about anything, they are not picky. I feed them
Purina One which is good for their teeth and breath.
They can get bad teeth at an early age so I brush
their teeth once at night and feed them Purina One.
Yes, they need to be brushed and it takes awhile
to potty train them. I keep my dogs hair clipped
short, it takes awhile to grow back. I think they
are great dogs.
theses web sites have tons of info!Hope it helps you a lot
Yorkies are very very small. usually the largest is 7 pounds! They would rather live inside because they don't like the outside as much. Yorkies as babies are usually blackish brown and tan. It is hard to housetrain. needs a lot of grooming. need to brush it everyday. lives usually 12-15 years. doesn't need that much excersise. umm i hope this helps!
well i know that they are small and expensive. and cute and they dont shed or drool(im not sure about the drooling part). and thats mostly it!

What do you have to provide to get a dog from a shelter?

I have a really active choco lab and he gets lonely sometimes when I have to leave for work and he has to stay fenced in the back yard. We live in a rural area and I was thinking about getting a shelter dog as a playmate for him.
How does that work?
Answers:
It depends on where you go. But when I recently rescued my cat, I had to provide them with the names of my vet, what types of pets I had already, whether they were male or female, how old they were, and whether I rented or owned my home. They also wanted proof of my address (I think so that if problems arose they could find me easily or something), so I had to bring in a bill with my name and address on it.
Kudos to you for wanting to rescue a dog! ;-)
It depends on the shelter. Really bad pounds will just let you take one; in nice shelters, you'll have to provide things like age, what pets you have at home, how often you're away from home, what you'll do if you move (take the dog with, of course), driver's license, date of birth, etc. etc. Anything else you need will be filled in by shelter personnel.
Just call you local animal shelter see if they heave any dogs that are friendly and that's it , you just need to bring money to pay for the dog , but they don't ask for anything else , well at least they don't ask here where I live . Except basic info on you and your family that will be living with the dog.
you need to give the shelter records of other dogs you had and when i got my puppy they also asked for people they can call to ask if we were good enough for the responsibility
Great idea!
It really varies, but some require a home a home inspection to make sure you have a proper place for him.
Others require that you be in your home for a certain amount of time (stability). They are looking for forever homes for dogs, not someone who will have to give them up in 6-12 months when they move again.
Go to petfinder.com and look for dogs in your area. Call and ask what info they need.
Hope this helps!
are animal shelter SUCKS we adopted (well rescued from being killed) and all you do is just put your name down and they let you have the dog. Becareful on what animal shelter you adopt from
Call the shelter, Pound, Humane Society, SPACA, and Local Rescue organizations. They should be able to help you match a dog to your dog.
If you are already responsible for a dog, adopting another dog should not be a big issue.
Well, usually, you go to the shelter, take a look around and pick out which dog you think is best for you. You then fill out forms about your living and working situation (i.e. if you own or rent and what place you live in).
There may be more to if if the dog is special needs some times. Or if its a large breed dog and has to have room to roam.
So, just check out the shelter to see what sort of requirements they have. It varies from place to place.
Good luck on your search and yay for you for considering adopting.
Some shelters require nothing. My local shelter you need your landlord to sign a permission form if you rent and that's IT. Just give them the cash and take the dog. They even waived the landlord thing for me since my landlord who is my boyfriend was out of town.
Other shelters are pickier. They may require interviews, home visits, vet recommendations etc. Just call your local shelter and ask.
the cost can range from $50-500
It depends.
The one I adopted my then 8 week old Border Collie Mix from (She's now about 11 weeks old) all the asked for was $30. But, I paid $65 so I could get her 1st puppy shots, the actual pup, %26 get her spayed once she is old enough. Which I only paid $35 extra. Then they had my sign a recent %26 I was done.
I got mine at the shelter, depending on who and why they were brought in, u need a form of identification, you fill out paperwork, pay the fee, they explain the dogs situation, they expect you to have the dog fixed and if u agree to everything you can bring the dog home the same day. If they dog was a stray they usually wait 3 or so days to see if anyone claims it before they adopt it out, if the dog was dropped off by the owner usually u can take them home with you.
It depends on your location. You may have to provide proof from your landlord if you rent that you have permission to have an animal or another animal on the premise. In rural areas, usually just show that you have the knowledge to care for your new pet, the desire to love and protect it, a small fee for neutering or spaying, and whatever shots are needed. Labs are really active dogs and a playmate would be a great idea.
Since we are renters we also had to provide proof we are allowed to have a dog. Also, since our baby would be spending her days with my parents' dogs (the 3 of them play together while we are at work) once we had narrowed our choice to two different dogs we had to bring my parents' dogs to the pound to see how everyone interacted.
It depends on the shelter. Some places will just let you take an animal with no background check or anything. Other places will visit your home and decide weather or not you are worthy of the animal. Most places just have you fill out a questionaire with all your home information on it and asking if you have ever surrendered an animal before. If you have be honest and they might not care depending upon the circumstances. Good Luck!!
Many are different. Take your dog to see if there is playmate there for him and discuss it with them.
Be sure to check petfinders for other rescues in your area.
I really do not want to sound mean, but I don't think you should be answering this question. Just hear me out, I am not calling you a bad person or anything. Like I said just keep an open mind.
I work for an animal shelter and we are not allowed to give out what is expected from a potential adopter. We have had too many people try to lie to us, once they find out what we ask for and need. It has nothing to do with you, but there are those people we lie so they can adopt a dog. We like to as up front when you are adopting, so we can get honest answers and we know that we are getting a responsible pet owner. Like I said, I am not calling you a bad person, but keep in mind that there are substantial reasons to our maddness.
When we adopted our dog from Orphans of The Storm (not affiliated with Hurricane Katrina), we had to fill out forms stating that we would provide her with a run, or a fenced in yard, and that we would pay for her spaying.
We have since moved to a bigger house, with a bigger yard. She goes outside in her pen, and for walks with me. (We both need to lose some weight) We keep her shots up dated, she's always wearing her license and she gets fed once a day. We also take her to the groomer when she starts to smell bad. lol
It all depends on what shelter you get your pet from. Some will ask you a million and one questions. Others just want the animal gone and your money. So, be careful of where you get him/her from. Make sure their values about life and animals match yours.

What do you feed a 4 week old puppy?

My neighbor just got a 4 week old baby poodle and she couldnt keep it so i wound up with it. i know its supposed to be older than 8 weeks to be taken away from its mom but i already have it and i dont know what to feed it.
Answers:
Just feed it dry puppy food, with a little canned and some warm water to make it soft so the puppy can chew it.Feed the pup four times a day,all it will eat in about 10 minutes. You can also add some puppy milk replacer to it's food if you like, and some good supplemental foods are strained meat baby food, cottage cheese, and cooked, finely diced chicken or ground beef and cooked rice. You need to get the puppy wormed and vaccinated as well.Such a young puppy is vulnerable to all kinds of viruses. Good luck.
puppy food and have lots of water avaible
Take the puppy back to the breeder and let it get weaned properly. If that is not possible, you need to see a vet and get some help. Four weeks old is to early for a puppy to leave its mother. Your puppy won't survive.
pet stores sell PRM puppy replacement milk, if it will not drink on its own, you will have to bottle feed. If it has started eating. mix PRM with puppy canned dog food, make it like oatmeal, I doubt it teeth are very long, and eating dry food at this time will not work, His teeth will break. Feed every 4 hours. No human milk, you will have a great case of diaherra.
you should get some puppy formula from your vet, or a petshop. Both would also sell bottles and nipples for puppies. You should take it to see a vet anyways. Goat's milk is also acceptable to feed a puppy.. but not cow's milk.

It is old enough to start introducing solids too. Soak a little kibble in warm water and mash it up. You can also offer meat baby foods.. just read the ingredeints to be sure it does not have any onion powder in it.
A puppy that young should be offered small amounts of food every 2-3 hours.
we had a three-week one once...
my brother bought a baby bottle, and that's how we fed our pup.. (you should see it suck; it acts like the bottle is its mom...) we used it to give the pup water and baby formula.
works fine, i guess, 'coz our doggie's all grown up and healthy right now.
oh yeah, instead of baby formula, you can use pet milk, too. you can find it in supermarkets or with vets.
There is a milk replacer that is sold in liquid form, or powder form, to be reconstituted. This is the very best thing to give the puppy, by botte. Puppies and kittens still need the "nursing" type feeding that a bottle provides, even if they can feed on their own. The milk replacer provides vitamins and proper balances of nutrients necessary for an animal of that age. If the puppy has its baby teeth, it can probably eat some softened puppy food, too, but using the milk replacer with a bottle will help it to feel secure. There are also recipes online for formulas, but I am not certain whether they provide everything the pup needs, or whether they could cause diarhea. You could also check with the vet for more information. Have fun with your puppy. By the way, can't the people who had the dog with the puppies take the puppy back for two or three weeks, until the puppy is old enough to be more realistically weaned from the mother? Also, with kittens, the mother helps them to defacate, and I am not sure how long a mother dog does this. If the puppy does not seem to be urinating or defacating, then you will have to help it along with a dampened wash cloth or paper towel, by gently wiping the areas, so that waste products don't build up in its body.
both your neighbour, and now you, are not fit to have pets. The puppy needs to be nourished on milk from its mother.
Somebody needs to take the poor little sod to a vet or animal shelter, so that it may be cared for by a person with knowledge- not some gormless halfwit
i fed mine like a lamb with a eye drop thing then a babys bottle with cowangate in it then gradualy worked him onto dog food diet of dry an mix now instead of being the weakest of litter he's now the biggest
Puppies are not supposed to be taken from the mother until they are at least 8 weeks old, I bought a small dog for my children and he was only 6 weeks old when we went to see him but the breeder warned us that they would not let us have him until he was 12 weeks so that he would have all his injections and be used to being away from the mother for a while. This also was the case with a Dalmatian pup I bought eight years ago. I think that the breeder is at fault here and all a 4 week old puppy should be taking is the mothers milk, it looks like your going to have to bottle feed the pup for the next two weeks at the most and then start introducing puppy food and watered milk eventually stopping the milk and giving him/her water instead of milk as milk is not good for any dogs as it can cause fits if given to them all the time. If you took the pup back to the mother now she most likely would reject it.
Good Luck
P.S. You should be feeding the puppy every four hours just like a baby.
i dont understand why the breeder sold a 4 week puppy, its wrong, take the puppy back to the breeder, puppy needs mum! Puppies at 4 weeks are still dependant on mums milk. You can give goats milk to him as theis is the closes milk you will find. He should of been started on puppy food, like pedigree (tin) puppy food, mixed with about 10ml of cooled boiled water. He will need feeding at least 4 times a day, from the age of 2 weeks he needs worming every two weeks, i always use panacur puppy paste from your local vets. Jabs should be given from 8 weeks old. I would strongly recommend you go back to the breeder as it is still possabl;e to loss him
at 4 weeks old pup should be able to lap, goats milk will be fine for pup to have also sock some puppy dried food with water make it very sloppy ,do this 5 times a day, small amounts you may have to help him eat it by putting it in his mouth with your fingers he will soon get the hang of it ,keep him worm ,and lots of love ,but if you could take him back it would be best for him ,good luck with your new pup but if your in England east midlands i will come and have him Ive got a litter they r 2 weeks old my ***** would feed her ,it wouldn't her the dog
ask a vet

What do you do with a dog that is afraid of thunder storms?

my dog runs around panting heavy and crawls up under end tables too small for her to get under. I have had some people tell me to drug her during storms. That is not a option,
because I live in Fla and I refuse to drug a dog everytime it storms.
Answers:
Comfort,Comfort,Comfort! No one knows until they have had an animal that has that problem what it is like!Years ago I had an Australian Shepard that was so pitiful .He started out jumping up into the air as if to try to bite the Lightening?Every time it lightened he went up doing his Biting thing? Then before long he became frantic hours before the storm even appeared, pacing ,scratching ,crying, howling all in combination. When I let him in he would go straight to my bedroom and go under the bed and dig.If he couldn't get under the bed he would dig into the carpet. One time we took him down to the Pool House and locked him in there, before we realized how serious this was for him ,and he chewed a metal vent on the Door completely out of the door and just showed up at the back door frantic! From that day on I held this poor 40 # freaked out Baby in my arms every time a storm even got near.It was terrible ,he was scared to death his whole life of storms near and far!I know now that I could have given him a small dose of Benadryl and both of us would have felt much better.RIP "Cody"!!Good Luck!!
Make sure that you keep him inside, curtains closed and stay with him and keep him calm.
crate train your dogs
this is not cruel your dogs actually feel safe and secure in their crate . everytime there is a storm get them relaxed and comfortable in their crate. my dog is crate trained and he goes in his crate by himself when he wants some alone time.
my dalmation gets scared too, the best thing to do if you are home is just to be in the same room with the dog, and pet the dog and comfort her, let her know that you are there and it will help calm her down. when we get storms if I am home, i just put her bed in our room, and she calms down just being near us. good luck, i know its hard to have that everytime it rains!
I have a dog that does this also, I put him in a room that is dark where he can't see the lightning.
keep her calm.
you can always ask your vet.
Maybe your vet would recomend therepy.

GOOD LUCK! to you and your dog.
keep it inside
and hold is
and say its ok
Get the Dog Whisperer..but seriously im not sure what you should do. try petting her and trying to calm her down and let her know that it is okay.
It's not that unusual, I just try to keep her calm by talking quiet
and petting her.
Dude most dogs act like that its normal some times. My little brother told me that his teachers dog went so mad that they had to put the dog down but my two dogs don't have a problem with the storms.
give her a treat, and i mean a really good treat so that she associates storms with good food. if that doesn't work, have you crate trained her? try training her to a crate, to most dogs, a crate is their little hideaway place, their own personal space, since she's trying to hide under tables, she would appreciate a crate more suited to her size. but, sometimes drugs are the only way to go, don't rule it out because storms can be unhealthily stressful for some dogs. hope this helps, lol.
My lab just started after 6yrs being very afraid. I have to hold him with eyes and ears covered. He forgets really fast though, because as soon as it's clear and he has to go out, he runs away from me!
Hi,
I have a website that has a page all about what to do if your dog is afraid of thunder or other loud noises. Check it out, it might help.
http://www.standardpoodlesusa.com/thunde...
I once had a Pit/Catahula Cur mix that was deathly afraid of T-storms. She would have crawled into my pocket if she could. She stuck to me like glue until it was over. One of the ways I was able to ease her anxiety was to play with her. My reasoning was to try and distract her from what was making her anxious. This worked so well that after a while when we would have those storms Alex would go get one of her toys and bring it to me for play time cause she now associated T-storms with extra play time. I also, as several others have said, used this time to train and reward with extra special treats. I'm afraid I can't say how this worked long term as my ex came and took Alex one night and I only saw her once after that before she let her die from heartworms. I do know that as long as I had her, when the thunder would start she would go get a toy and make me go in the kitchen with her. That's where I kept her treats. There, we would play until it was over. The only down side was when the storms came in the middle of the night. She wanted to play then sometimes too but only during the really bad ones. Otherwise, she would just leave her usual spot at the foot of my bed or in the doorway to my room and curl up next to my bed on the floor. It was really kinda sweet. When the thunder would start she would come over and lick my hand or face to let me know she was there. I'd give her a scratch or a pat on the head and then she'd curl up there next to me and go back to sleep. I think it's most important to make them feel safe as though nothing unusual is going on.
Do u have a room in your house that has little to no windows? If you do, I suggest taking your dog to that room. make a nice, comfy bed for it, and fill the room with your dog's favorite toys. sometimes, toys and treats will distract them and calm them down. during the storm, make sure you stay with your dog, even if it involves pulling out the air matress or sleeping bag. and make sure that you stay calm too! animals, and especially dogs, can often sense a humans destress.

What do you do when your dogs howl at night?

I'm exasperated... I've tried everything i could think of to make them stop howling at night, from scolding them, treating them, or letting them sleep in the room with me, but nothing works. any suggestions?
Answers:
Do they get enough exercise during the day? A good walk and play time can help a dog sleep better at night.
Maybe try one of those electronic devices that doesnt hurt them but gives them a little shock when they bark... Its a collar. I have been having the same situation i have a new puppy and he cries alll night long! Annoying
Rather than scold the dog, try to wait until he is calm and then as soon as he's quiet, you give him a treat and say, "Good boy."
If he starts to howl again, wait until he's quiet and treat him again. Reward him only for good behavior, but do not scold when he's behaving badly. Scolding him will only make his behavior worse, as dogs tend to see any attention as good attention.
aghh if its dogs in the neighbourhood then not much may be done.
it sounds like they are being beaten up by someone (these ones anyway) maybe horrific dreams of reality?
I try to snuggle in a ball and think of something until I cant think anymore and then give in to sleep.
has anything traumatic happened to your dogs? It may be that they're missing their parents or they could be part wolf :/
I used to have a dog who would bark/howl all the time. you can buy a citrenella collar at any pet store, online. Basically it is a collar with a little box on it that lines up with your dogs neck. It has a censor on it so when your dog begins barking or howling, it will automatically go off and spray the citrenella spray in his face - it is not cruel or doesn't hurt the dog. It basically just interrupts them and they stop. Most dogs only get sprayed about 2-3 times and then they get the picture. Do this before you even think about a shock collar - those do hurt after a few times and some dogs will think you are hurting them because you are putting the collar on.Try it - I guarentee it will help.
Electric bark collars. Put them on at night and make sure they are on high and tight. Do not listen to those that have no idea how these things work. They will stop the barking/howling, guarantee.

What do you do when you can't keep a pitbull?

What do you do when you can't keep a aggressive pitbull and rescue groups wan't take her and you don't wan't her put down and nobody wants her
Answers:
The most responsible thing to do is euthanize the dog. If you try to give her away, she may end up in the hands of some evil person who would fight her which is torture. Even if a nice person gets her, she could really hurt someone. The best, most responsible and really the only option is a pain-free euthanasia.
Find a good trainer and fix your mistakes??
Put an ad in the paper, someone might take her.
get help from an expert so she can be more submissive and a rescue will take her.
Your only option is trying more rescue groups. If she is overly aggressive and has a history of biting, she will be put down if you take her to a shelter. I don't know your situation, but just be aware of what will happen, so before you make a decision, make sure it's one you're going to be able to live with. Maybe try a private obedience class. That might be an option.
I am sorry, but if she is that aggressive, there aren't many choices. I had to have my German Shepherd put down because of that. She was great, but hated little kids...and no, she was never mistreated by one.
I felt terrible doing that, but would have felt worse if she had successfully mauled a child. Be responsible.
why is she so aggressive? what happened to her? I would say try and ad but also try working with her... but if you hire a professional you are investing in something you want to get rid of... maybe an ad in the paper.
give her to me, just get her trained and work with her pit bulls are not natrually mean if you kepp them locked up all the time that can trigger agression toward ather animals or even people
If you find a good (I mean REALLY good) trainer that's used to working with aggresive pitbulls, then maybe she'll get trained and you can keep her. I know, it's hard to know that you may have to put her to sleep. It's hard but remember, things change, things go wrong, but always remember life goes on.
Wow that's not sounding too good. Maybe you should try to find a really good trainer to try and make her less aggressive. But if that doesn't work, you may have to put her down, despite how much you don't want to. Aggressive animals aren't usually happy animals. But definitely leave that as a last resort. Call around and try to find a really good trainer and hopefully she will become more friendly.
Good luck!
Mike Vick will know what to do with her.

sorry - couldn't resist.
I'm sure Michael Vick and his crew will be more than happy to take the dog.
if your an animal lover like i am no matter what kind it is, try seeking help for her by way of training from an experienced person who dedicates their lives to help dogs in her situation. if training isn't something that you can afford then keep looking for a home for her cause there is someone or somwhere that she can go to and that will want her. if you have a wal-mart near you contact them about an adopt a pet program that they host (i can't remember the name of it) and ask when and where it is. that would be the best solution for you.good luck!!
Work with a trainer until you have either reformed your dog or discovered that you cannot change its behavior. If you find your dog to still be aggressive after sessions with an expert behaviorist, as much as this sucks, the responsible and kindest thing will be to euthanize the dog.
You cannot rehome an aggressive dog without legal implications if the dog were to attack a person or other pet. This would cause you years of misery and possible financial ruin depending on the situation.
You can't risk giving it away to someone who says they can retrain an aggressive pit because this person might very well turn out to be a dog-fighter. Imagine your guilt if your pet ended up in this miserable situation!
And you can try to wait for a no-kill SANCTUARY- not a shelter- they do exist but are extremely rare and the wait is very long, but what will you do with your poor dog until then? Cage it? Kennel it? Tie it up? All sad states of existance for an active, healthy dog.
Make the comittment to the training. Give it your best shot. If the trainer thinks it's not working, be your dog's best friend and put it out of a future of misery. Do this with your own vet- ask him to come to your home so the dog isn't stressed out. I hate to give you this answer. But not all dogs can be saved. Good luck to you. I hope you can prove me wrong...
Well you can stop wearing those heavy shinguard for a start.
You can put the kids on the floor for a while without worrying about them getting their throat ripped out.
Friends will start coming around again.
people don't write you off as being part of some insecure subculture that keeps dogs designed to kill.
Basically you rejoin the human race. Its pretty cool actually.
and the pit bull will be in doggie heaven, ripping the wings off angels foolish enough to let them in.
Wow sounds like your out of choices, sorry about that. I cant believe rescue groups won't take her, people are on here all the time trying to get everyone to get dogs from rescues, shelters etc.
Please dont try to get anyone to take her, her aggresive issues could be used on a poor human that isn't going to live from it.
I had a dog once that was so protective of our home and property, why we dont know. I advertised him free to a good home letting the new owner know how he was, and the guy after 5 min. could come up to the dog and befriend him, took him home, he lived out in the country and they lived happily ever after. but that isn't always the case.
animal shelter
I found a website that might help, for the Toronto Humane Society. If you call the Communicator shown at the bottom of the article, you might get some advice, because they are dedicated to saving animals' lives. Good luck.

What do you do when people want your dog gone?

yes she is a pitbull
yes she has killed another dog
no she has never bit someone
Answers:
she should be humanely killed along with the rest of the breed
my neighbors want my dog gone too. just because he barks at them when they look like they r approaching his territory. all he is trying to do is protect his family and home. i just ignore these people. the only way they can make u get rid of ur dog is if the police r involved but unless u live in an area with breed specific legislations then u r fine. unless they report ur dog as vicious because it killed another dog but other than that i would just ignore them some people need to pull their heads out of their @sses
YOU GIVE IT TO THEM

p.s our avatars look alot alike
hmm... well i don't know what to say, but usually dogs get put down when they kill other dogs...
You should never give her an opportunity to kill another dog.
As an owner of pitbull, and you know how people think about pitbull. It is you responsibility.
Yes, she only kill another dog, but give a chance, she might kill little kid.
As a dog lover, I'll say fight for your dog. But if I were your neighbor, I'll say, let them take the dog away.
First of all "Diox" is a idiot!
Not really sure how to answer your question since your dog did kill another dog... I have a pit bull also.. and if your dog killed mine... well, to say the least me and you would be fighting...I can see your side and your neighbors... but if your wanting to keep your dog alive you need to start being a more responsible pit owner... and fast
So both dogs were yours, I'd say you do not know how to handle such a powerful breed of dog. Did you train them or take them to any classes? As a Pit Bull owner it was your responsibility to take care of both dogs, now one is dead and in the worst possible way dog fighting (like pit bulls don't already have bad reputation)
It's probably Little late for a muzzle and strict rules now so the only responsible thing for you to do is to put the dog down. I really hate saying this because I'm a pit bull owner! But they need responsible owners to train and take care of them not crazy lazy idiots that don't care.
Sorry but ....
Best thing for your dog! and the breed! and as for the neighbors they will always find something wrong with a pit bull owner, it's best not to prove them right.
I'll see whether they get a point. If they don't, turn a deaf ear to them but if they do consider dumping it in animal protection societies I know it's painful but for your and others safety ... lately here a was bitten by Cavalier and needed to cut away her arm ... and your dog killed, and just because of the master was hurt the cavalier was put to death ...
jarel,
I am very sorry for what has happened but pitbulls are noted for that kind of behavior. She was probably a puppymill dog and was bred to fight. That is genetic. I'm not 100% put pretty sure, if wrong someone will correct it. The first thing to do is muzzle her at all times when outside. keep her in and on your own property. but this sounds as though at heartbreaking as it may be she may have to be put to sleep...I am very sorry. but first a dog then a young child. As your friend either take more preventative actions or have her put down. I had to have a bordercollie/chow mix put down a few years back cause he would bite us. It was a heartbreaking decision. but it was the right thing cause he could have turned on my 7yr old little girl at the time
doesn't matter what breed the dog is--if she turned on her mate, what is to keep her from turning on a person? Sorry--but I agree--Put her down--it is the only humane thing to do.would you rather wait-have her attack someone-and have the cops shoot her? this happened in my town recently and believe me, it was far more devastating to the owner to have it go that way than it would have been if they had just taken the dog to the vet and had it done there
well.I think you know what to do.the answer is something you don't want to here.put to sleep 4 ever.unlike the dude from the top says (who by the way is an @ss) i don't think the rest of the breed needs 2 be put to sleep.i have one and she would never do a thing.I hope this helps.

What do you do or say when somebodies dogs jump on you every time you go to their home?

When I go to my neighbors both of their large Golden Retrievers jump on us. One stops after a few times but the other continues. They only tell it to stop once.
Answers:
Don't say anything, just gently push the dog off of you and then praise it when it is down.
Some people are totally clueless and will get offended if you say something about it, but if they see you having to "train" their dog, they will either get the hint or the dog will actually learn from you.
The best way to discourage them is to step backwards when they are trying to jump on you. The dog will land on the ground instead of you, and it will discourage him from doing it. Then when he finally gives up and sits or stands in front of you, pet him and tell him he's a good dog, etc. You can also use your knee to push him off you. Dogs don't like that.
I would ask them to put it away when I am coming over so it doesn't knock my kids down or would not go there any more...
they re being quite inconsiderate, and irresponsible, a responsible owner makes sure their dogs behave
I have a friend who has dogs that do this too! I hate it...they are a Golden Retriever and a Labrador Retriever.they love people and want to jump all over me when I come over. I usually tell them to "go" or "No" and I am constantly lifting my leg up to knee them in the chest. My friend knows me and knows how I hate this, so she is understanding...but you have to be careful because some people can take it offensively.
There really isn't anything you can do without ticking off the neighbors. Disciplining other peoples dogs is like disciplining other peoples children; a bad idea. These people just didn't train their dogs properly, which is doubly bad since they're big dogs. They obviously know their dogs jump on people; they just don't care. You can try stepping back when they come at you, or turning away, to avoid them. Trying any training techniques won't work, though, no matter how subtle, since they won't be used when you aren't there.
Call ahead and politely ask them to put a leash on the jumpy dog.
Take care of it yourself. As the dog jumps up, bring up your knee. You aren't kicking or kneeing him, he will bump your knee when he jumps up. Say, "no, sit", at the same time.
Praise him and pet him when he sits.
Be honest. Tell them the dog makes you nuts, and they need to control him.
Ignore the dogs when you first get there say nothing to them, don't touch them just ignore them. If they still jump on you turn around( turn back away from them) ! when they settle down (calm state) them pet them as a reward for being calm.
Politely ask them to please control there pet, if that doesn't work there is a bit ruder method that Will work, i had a black lab/collie mix that was a Monster (260 lbs and about 6'4 when standing on his hind legs) he liked to jump too and the only thing that broke him of it was every time he jumped i brought my knee up HARD into his chest only had to do it about 5 times and he quit jumping.
I dont think you should say anything unless theyre a really good friend of yours. if theyre a good friend of yours, dont say anything in front of theyre parents, talk to them in private:: "ur dog keeps jumping up on me.. its kinda bothering me.. im not trying to be rude but.. you kno?"
Whenever I go to my boyfriend's house, his dog jumps all over me and scratches like crazy.
Usually I just tell him to get off quietly, because I know his mom gets really offensive if I tell her dog to do things (even if it's something like that).
If the parents are bitchy about it, I would just talk to them and tell them that you don't want them all over you.
Tell them that it makes you uncomfortable.
I normally walk in and walk straight past the dogs and ignore them for about 10 minutes and then start playing with them. If they jump on you step into them and turn away from them.
Turn your back to them. When you turn back around,if they try to jump up,turn around again.Don't say anything to them. They should soon get the idea that jumping equals being ignored.Ask your neighbors to please work with them as well,as a large dog could easily knock someone over and hurt them, even if it's unintentional.
the problem is pack order you have to establish your place in their pack. When you go there and they start to jump on you push them off and say "no... off. in a commanding voice (like you would use with a little brother or sister) Keep repeating your self till they stay down. use your hands in a pushing motion and say "stay .. off. When they do stay off pet them and tell them they are good dogs. some dogs will get excited all over again when you say good dog. so you'll probably have to go back to the "no... stay off " . Dogs are very intelligent. after a while they will learn to follow your command to stay off the first time you give it, because they 'll know the praise and attention you'll give them because they were good a little praise and attention ...that's all they really want.
Ignore it completely. don't look at it, pat it or talk to it. he will soon get bored of you. Talk to the owner, ask them to keep their dogs under control!!!!!

What do you do if you sight a coyote?

I am pretty sure I saw a coyote in my neighbors yard while walking my 5 month yr. old puppy. Recently, attacks in other towns, just minutes away have been reported, and a few yrs. ago There were coyotes on my street. I want to know how i can protec myself and my puppy if one is in our yard!
Answers:
stay inside and close the blinds and shades, and keep your puppy and everyone away from the windows or any open doors
you should probably call your neighbors and warn them too
if it comes near you, stay still or slowly move away
but do not run! especially with your puppy
Coyotes are cowards when they are alone. Make lots of noise, do not run away, and be confident and aggressive. Carry a sturdy walking stick with you, and do not back down. They very RARELY attack humans, unless they are in packs, or are starving and you are relatively small.
Carry an air horn like the ones you can get at Walmart in the sporting goods section. If you see a coyote, blast the horn in its direction, and the coyote will haul butt outta there.
Put up a gate or walk your dog outside on a leash. Just make sure he doesn't get anywhere NEAR those coyotes.
First. Keep your puppy INSIDE. Close any blinds and windows that are downstairs. Before dusk, clean up your backyard of any puppy toys. If you see one in your backyard start yelling, or blast music because for some reason they dont like the loud noise. Once it is gone, carry on.
Call animal control right away.
Do what she said!
Get an Daisy air gun and shoot it when you spot it. The guns are quite safe if you misaimed and hit someone. The cowardy cayote will be deterred to come back to your area.
call the fish and game or law enforcement the like to take care of that
Always supervise your puppy when you are out. Look outside before taking him/her outside. Most coyotes will not attack for no reason, but may see your pup as prey. And they are attacking because society has built into thier homes and have destroyed what they need to survive. They are doing what they need to do to survive. I would just be extra careful when you are out with your puppy and be aware of your surroundings. I believe you can find sprays that can be used to deter an attacking dog, look in your local pet shops. Although I'm not sure if it would work on a coyote. You could also maybe carry one of those loud canned fog horns. It may just be loud enough to scare it away.
R U N just kidding. the coyote wil be more scared of you then you are of him make a lot of noise he he will go away
Is there a person that you can report it to. Out in the area I live in the is a newspaper that my mother gets in the mail and they have in it a section and it is called Coyote siteing and the person has a number that people can call to report a siteing of a coyote. Call the Fish and Game and see if they know of some group that you can call to report an coyote.
well i have a boxer..which isnt really a scarry dog and i was fishing one time and he was with me and a coyote came up and my dog ran him off but i dont know much about how coyotes react in packs but im sure its totally different and im not sure where your from or if you live in town but in alot of places you can get a liscence to shoot them but make sure you talk it over with your neighbor...a 22 rifle or if your a good aim a 22 pistol will work fine and of course any gun bigger than a 22 but i wouldnt be 2 scared of coyotes they just get their killer name from wolves i know a little bit about them because theirs ALOT of them where i live and the only attacks ive ever heard of were on chickens
When you go walking, carry a big walking stick. Make sure it's strong and sturdy. If the coyote was to come too close, growling and barking, try swinging the stick and make some noise. Like getting the air horn. Just do not try putting your dog in front of you. I'm assuming your dog is a medium or large size breed. Well, just carry an air horn and a walking stick. It should help. Don't call the animal control or anything because it's humans fault that we built our homes on coyotes loved land. Also, if there is only one, don't be too afraid. If there are more, slowly walk away and try to hide somewhere. Maybe blow the horn once your hidden. Or try going into someone's house.
To protect your puppy..never leave it alone in your yard unsupervised..especially at night. Even if your yard is fenced..coyotes can clear a 6 ft. fence and will to get at your dog. While walking..a coyote is not going to approach you and your dog..they will usually try and avoid human contact whenever possible. They may be acclaimated to humans if they are roaming neighborhoods..but they are still not likely to approach a person. Keep in mind..YOU are in THEIR habitat and territory, not the other way around. We have built into their natural habitat and they have no where left to go as humans are now inhabiting their living space. I encounter coyotes on a daily basis (I work as a wildlife biologist) and they run from me. I have never had one approach me. I don't really have any protection .. sometimes I carry a stick but that is more for protection against people or if I run across a mountain lion.has never been an issue with coyotes. I am however a lot more weary of stray dogs on my study site as they are a lot more likely to attack me than a coyote is. You too can carry a stick when you walk your dog if this makes you feel protected. This can be good protection against loose dogs as well that may attack your puppy. Just be cautious when walking your dog..and do not let it out unsupervised and you should be okay. If your dog is a small breed it can never go out unsupervised, even when an adult. Larger breeds are much bigger than coyotes and outweigh them by quite a bit and coyotes do not bother them.
not much coyotes are more afraid of you then you are of them. so if you see them chances are they will run.. coyotes are a.k.a. cowerds . if you take your puppy out for a walk take large sticks with you or a bat. i have them walk up and down my street all the time. also they hop over fences so dont leave you dog out side at any time for a long time. good luck. hope i helped.
Best thing to do is to get in the house as quickly as you can with your pup and then call animal control and tell them. I used to be a nanny in a very upscale neighborhood. I took care of 3 little girls. There was this big open field in behimd their house. We were out in the back yard, the kids were playing and having a big time and this coyote comes loping along the perimeter of the yard. It watched us as he walked by but kept going. I called the animal control and told them about it. When I told my employer, she did not believe it, said oh it was just a dog. I have lived in the country most of my life and seen many coyotes and I know what they look like. We live far out in the country and practically in a forest. There are lots of trees all around and lots of wildlife. Thanfully we have a blue heeler mix that keeps them far away from our house.

What do you call a pitbull and a bulldog mix?

Also do they have a "going price"? Looking in and around Michigan.
Answers:
a vicious killer whose breed should be extinct
You call them mutts, and no, they don't have a going price.
you call it a mutt just like any other mixed breed dog
you can adopt one from petfinder.com from $50-200
You call them a disaster waiting to happen.
A pit/bull cross?
A BullPitt
Mutt - cheap at the pound
A mixed breed that you can find plenty of in a shelter...
good luck with that. depending on which is the female especially. english bulldogs are really only still in existance because of human intervention. most of them have to be AI'd and have c-section deliveries. there is no market for this mix, only fools like you.
you call them a pit/bulldog cross. or better known as a mutt. Mutts generally go for about $50 to a good home. Make sure you get those pups good homes that will socialize and train them. Do a google search for good ways to find good homes for your pups. Then go get you dog spayed/nutered. Bully breeds are often used for dog fighting so please be careful and don't let your dogs get trapped into that horrible way of life.
its called a mix. or a mutt. when you say mix, people might say, "of what?" then you say pittbul and bulldog. and idk
A mutt. And, I'm sure that they do have a "going price", but it's a crock of sh*t. They're mixes, and should not be intentionally bred, because we have enough shelter dogs as it is. However, I'm sure that they are great dogs, seeing as how both of those breeds are wonderful.
That would be a MUTT and they don't have a going price...and please don't breed those two dogs... it could cause alot of health and growing issues...
If you were michael vick you would call them money makers.
a pittbull is really called a staffordshire bull terrier
so really it would be hard 2 put the 2 together u normally
put the 2 names together like a pug %26 beagle is a pugle
but it normally goes by pittbull.just say a pit bull %26bulldog
mix or a mutt
Do you want a pit bull/bulldog mix? If you want to adopt a dog be sure to do research on both breeds. The mix will take on characteristics of both breeds, possibly taking the characteristics of one parents more strongly than the other. I live in Michigan and there are quite a few pit bull/bulldog mixes who are in animal shelters and need a good home. You can search in your local animal shelters, or you can search on http://www.petfinder.com to find a dog who is in an animal shelter or rescue group in your area.
