Answers:
Well put him in a crate...you said he screamed but you won't be there to hear it and it won't hurt him to be in there for a short while.
weed, animals are natural pot heads, they may steal your stash though

i have missed you al day!
Is he crate trained? If so take your crate.
You could try rescue remedy or bach flowers, they're all herbal so generally safe to use.
I would suggest crate training .. obviously you cannot train your pup before you go because it will take some time but I would recommend calling your local vet's office and requesting something to calm him down while you're gone. Acepromazine helps for the car rides but I'm not sure if they would prescribe the same thing for just in-home. It's worth a try!
PET TAXI, PET TAXI, PET TAXI. That is the best thing for you the dog and your moms door. Giving something for sedation for that is not a responsible nor is it fair to the dog.
Crate train your dog.
Crate train the dog rather than drugging him into being well behaved.
If you don't have a crate for your dog, you can give him melatonin. It's a natural sleep hormone that the body produces, so it's perfectly safe.
Your dog has separation anxiety. Some dogs can get it really bad. Someone I know told me a story of how a dog jumped out a window to its death because it saw the owner leaving the house.

Dogs like that can't be left alone for long, because they get anxious. Your dog scratches the door, because they know that's where you come and go.

I would suggest keeping them in one room when you're out of the house, or having someone stay there with your dog.
Or as a last resort, put padding and plastic wrap on everything, haha. Separation anxiety can get really serious. :/
Crate training didn't take because your dog has separation anxiety, and take it from someone who could write a book on the subject, there is NO easy fix.
Crate training is a must though, and if you believe you need medication for your dog you can request clomicalm or amitriptyline from your vet. These medications will not fix your dog, but will help over time in combination with anti-anxiety training. Please consult your vet regarding which medication is right for your dog, and you can get anti-anxiety training tips from them too (things like picking up your keys, putting down your keys, picking up your keys, putting down your keys, etc. or taking off your shoes, putting on your shoes, taking off your shoes, putting on your shoes, etc.) Combined with the medication (which is costly, not to mention the blood/liver enzyme tests you also have to pay for every 3 months of being on the meds) you may be able to make some headway into fixing your dog's anxiety.
Good luck!
you can give your dog gravol. I give it to my pup if we have to travel because she gets car sick. poor girl. Also when i had to put her on antibiotics for a skin rash thing the vet said if she throws up to give her gravol. It helps with an upset stomache and causes drowsiness, but a comfy drowsy feeling. :) only give 1 pill tho and no more for atleast 6 hours.
You probably don't have a blankie, but sleep with a towel for the next few nights and bring that towel with you. Sleep with it every night so it gets your scent, and when you're gone, leave it in your dog's crate. He'll stick with the rag when he misses you. If you catch him humping it, hey it's got issues, but you shoulda known that's part of the deal when you have a dog.
