What can you use to discourage a dog from urinating on a carpet?

Answers:
The trick to discouraging is to make it so the dog can't smell it. They have a much keener nose than us, and while you may not smell it, it's their sense of smell that needs catering to :) First remove as much urine as possible if it's still wet. An easy and cheap thing for clean ups that actually works is 1/4 c white vinegar in a half pail of water, or you can buy the more expensive enzyme cleaners. On regular flooring you can just wipe it over where the urine was. On carpets I've always saturated down into the carpet, going on the principle if the urine saturates in, so should the cleaner. You can then take an old towel or even paper towels and remove the excess. Then don't allow the dog back into the area until the carpet is dry. If your dog is unreliable and not fully house trained, I'd think about not allowing the dog access to the carpeted area in the house unsupervised, if at possible, until they are reliable. GL

Go ahead and make sure to use the cleaner on the old spots as well as the fresh ones
a kick up the a*ss
put 1/2 water 1/2 vineagar in a spray bottle and spray the floor where it peed.it removes the dogs scent from the carpet...
The pet supply stores carry products for this and they work. The best one is Nature's Miracle (get the big bottle) Follow directions on bottle. Also take pup out as often as you can and praise any success. Good luck.
say no or spray it with water when it is doing it
