What causes dogs to get crystals in there kidneys?

I have a cocker spaniel and she ended up with cyrstals, the vet put her on medicine and also put her on Royal Canin food that is Urinary So. Only I am worried too, because the food has ground corn in it. And the canned food has meat by products and corn grits in it. I have always heard to stay away from corn and by products. She also had to have expressed done with her annual glands again. She has to see the vet again in 2 wks. after we finish the meds. Any suggestions ?
Answers:
Seek the advice of a holistic vet. Conventional doctors and vets treat the symptoms and not the cure. Holistic vets look for a cure or the reason why. Two totally different approaches. Make sure the holistic vet is board certified you can look them up on line.
Pretty sure your pet food will be changed too! Good luck!
Canned dog food with a ASH content that is over 3.0. I have spoken to a Vet about this along time ago when a dog that my parents had along time ago and a Cat that I had. The Vet told me that a Ash content higher then a 3.0 can cause problems in dogs and cats. It has nothing to do with the corn in the food it is the Ash that is in the canned food. You should talk to your Vet about it. I have been told what it is and I will no longer give a dog or a cat canned food anymore after what I found out what it is.
i think it's too much fat in their diet, like humans.
I agree with Dixie. Seek alternative therapies.
Could she have gotten any of the tainted food back before the recalls?
Is she having any kidney failure? You will have to cut the protein in her diet if she has any failure.
Usually this is caused by poor quality food and a diet that is lacking in water consumption.
Poor food quality creats more toxins in the body... without enough water consumption, there will be no way to rid the body of the toxins. This causes build up in organs like the kidneys.
Try switching to a grain free food like Evo. Or better yet, switch to a raw food diet (since raw meat is something like 70% water!)
