I have a 3 1/2 year old 98 pound black lab
Since yesterday he has been vomiting (several times) the vomit is black and VERY smelly. Almost a formeldhyde(sp?) smell.
Today, he is not active, won't eat, drinks very little, and his nose is dry...a little warm but not hot.
We have not used any chemicals around the house or yard.
Any ideas?

While parvo and such diseases tend to be more prevalent among puppies, it does sound very much like either that or poisoning. If it's parvo, he should have diarrhea and vomiting. If he has not died already (these are symptoms that should have prompted an immediate vet visit), he should be taken to a vet immediately. If money is an issue, most vets will set up a payment plan to allow your pet to receive the care he deserves.
Get him to a vet NOW, someone may have tossed poison over the fence or he may have picked up pravo either way he needs to see a vet fast.
Please get your dog to a vet very soon. This is not good for him to be vomiting up what could be blood.

You should take him to the vet now. He sounds poisoned. But you have to take him to the vet to save him. Take him right away.
is he current on all vaccines? Did he get into something in the yard? Did you change his food or treats? You better take him to the vet in the AM. Hope he feels better soon!

The manufacture of your pet food could have messed up on the food and it could have something in it.
I know vet trips are expensive, but you cannot take chances on things like this. It sounds as if your dog has eaten something that he is not suppossed to. There is no way for any of us to tell over the computer, and he needs a veterinarian as soon as possible. Please take him in! Good luck- I hope everything turns out alright! : )

When blood curdles in the acid of the stomach, it turns black. There is a high suspicion that your dog is vomiting blood.
Your time is running out. Race to the vet.
Why did you wait for a whole day anyway? He should have seen a vet as soon as you saw the first bit of "black vomit". That is an emergency.
Could turn out to be stomach ulcers or oesophogeal ulcers, but poisoning would be my greatest worry.
