I love mutts. I own 2 of them. Both lab/blue heeler mixes. One more heeler, one more lab. Great dogs and I love them dearly. They were both rescued. I would not have paid an unscrupulous breeder for these dogs. Not that my dogs aren't worth it but because the breeders are crook and I will not reward them for their unscrupulous breeding practices. I also own purebred chihuahuas. If I was going to spend hundreds or thousands on a dog it would be on chihuahuas not on mutts. And for those who think mutts are healthier, that is just a lot of bull. Chihuahuas often live to be 20+ years old. My chihuahuas seldom need to see a vet. Usually it is for shots, or a spay/neuter. My mutts are also healthy, but a lot of the dogs' health has to do with the care they receive.

Mutts are just as good as any type of dog!! Who cares that they aren't purebreed? Most Americans aren't 100% French, Irish, Russian, German, English etc!

I love ALL dogs purebred or not. All dogs are special and unique. I have purebreds and they are they are not uptight they are total goof balls.
I will take a mutt anytime over a purebreed. I have two chihuahuas but they are mixed with rat-terrier. I have a lab but she is mixed with a another breed. They are loving, smart and haven't gotten sick. Mutts rarely get sick.

there awesome dogs, but are not worth as much as purebreeds. And i shame those people who love mutts so much that they start backyard breeding them cause they end up in shelters. usually purebreeds rarely end up in a shelter. so i prefer purebreeds over mutts, cause i know what i have, i want to be prepared. and no offense buut usually most5 purebreeds end up prettier then mutts, but then again beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!
I think all dogs are great, pure or mutt. Mutts are great though cause the phsyical appearance could always be a toss up til maturity.
I hate designer breeders and the ignorant people that buy them. If you want a mutt there are plenty of them at the shelter. The people that breed thease designer mutts at just doing it for money, no health guarentee, no x-ray testing. There just not healthy at all.

Mutts should not be intentionally bred. You have a mutt. Not a breed, a mutt. A mutt you could've adopted at the shelter for a LOT less money, and saved a life by doing so. Instead, you supported a backyard breeder/puppymill. Nice job.

No such thing as a mini mutt, sorry. Although, you might can find another breeder willing to tell you they breed mini mutts and take your money!

I love mutts. Each one is different and they have a heck of a lot less health issues than purebreeds do. Too much inbreeding. There are so many homeless dogs out there that need homes I don't see the point of spending thousands of dollars on a dog when you can go to the pound and rescue a mutt, sometimes even a purebred.

I think mutts can sometimes be unique and beautiful... Temperament could be anything. Health usually is better than pure-breds.

ok, designer dogs (which are the mutts you are referring too) are not cool in the least bit. There should be no reason to intentionally cross breed. However, if you are referring to the dog that get adopted at the pound, then that's awesome. I understand people choose certain breeds over another due to lifestyle, which is fine, because it is part of a responsible decision. You should never buy a certain dog just because it the "cool" thing to do and some douche bad celeb was seen toting one around.
It should be pure breeds or rescues. That's the way to go.
You can think what you want about your mixed breed dogs.. that's entirely your right..
I believe mutts are perfectly fine, have met plenty that are wonderful dogs.. I don't have a problem with ANY dog, once it's here.. I do however have a problem with the people that feel that they should be breeding mutts.. It adds nothing to the dog population. It degrades both breeds, and it creates more unwanted, out of control dogs that end up dying cause no one wants them.. A litter of 8 is born, you take one, and no one else wants the rest.. Where do they go?? They end up dead.. Or they are adopted out and then returned to the shelter because they are uncontrollable dogs that DO SHED...
I like the purebred, all the time, thought and work that has been put into producing a proper breed.. I like that there is consistency and you know what you are getting when you buy a dog..
I think if people want to breed their mutts.. They should go about it the right way.. They should breed for more than just cute or non shedding.. They should breed for a consistency and they should produce a standard, and should be able to consistently produce the same dogs.. They should apply to the kennel club to be accepted.. If they can't go about it the right way and produce a proper breed of dog with consistency.. they are producing mutts and are puppymills..
You must be very young. Do you realize what you are saying when you say you don't care if they are bred on purpose? You need to go do some homework on puppymills and backyard breeders. If you were aware of how some of these "cute" mutts are brought into this world, you might change your mind.
And anything called a "minigoldendoodle" doesn't sound very healthy to me.
There are, however, many very cute purebred dogs in shelters (yes Chocolate_Rain-you should visit a shelter sometime and watch the purebreds get euthanized), so instead of trying to get one of the new "fad" dogs, why don't you stop at your local shelter and take a look at all those cute and some, beautiful, faces in there waiting to go home with someone?
Also, purebreds that are "uptight" are probably not from reputable breeders, who make sure they breed for temperament and personality.
The conclusion here is that there are some great mutts and some great purebreds! I love them all, and just wish everyone did, so we would have fewer of them in rescue!
