there are many dog foods on the market...I personally use wilderness blend, there are some better than this, and a whole lot of others which are crap. my best advice to you is look at the back of the bag at the ingredients.the first ingredient should always be meat: such as lamb, chicken, beef, Buffalo...not 'by products' and especially not 'meal'. i would also suggest you talk to your vet about switching your pup to large breed adult food. he/she is 5 months old now and it would be best for your pup to go to large breed adult food this will help slow down the growing process somewhat. if you pup grows too fast this could result in 'pano' which is growing pains and they can become temporarily lame and be in a lot of pain. with GSD's you have to watch what you feed them their entire lives they are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia as well as allergies. buying cheap food may help your pocket book in the short run, but could have an adverse affect on your pup and many medical problems down the road...something to think about.
pet stores sell many breed specific brands of Dog food.
Try Nutro Large Breed Puppy
Royal Canin German Shepherd
Iams is not normally accepted by picky eaters and Science Diet has too many preservatives.
I would feed it a soft pet food like Pedigree. When it gets older I would feed it the same thing or IAMS. But it also depends on what works with your dogs stomach. Just make sure you dont switch your dogs food to often or you will make it sick.
Hi, to me Pedigree is the best. They love it. I grew up raising white shepards. the food might not be the problem. Check withy your vet. Mix a little gravy or milk in it. Is she alone a lot while you work? If so, leave her an old shoe or sock so she won't miss you. Puppies also love stuffed animals. Leave her a chew bone to keep her busy when you are away, and give her lots of attention when you get home. Remember, she may feel all alone without her mom. Reward her when she does good things. Give her time. She will come around and eat lots of food. you might also give her a crate or cage that is all her own to feel safe. She will eventually respect you and prorect you and stay by your side. Shepards are one of the best pals to have on your side. Good luck! Just listen, and you will know whay she needs.
I feed my GSD Nature's Recipe,Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice and Nutro Natural Chioce. When she was a puppy,I fed her Diamond Puppy Food, and Purina Pro Plan Puppy food, and Bil- Jac frozen, which she still eats as well.I don't like Pedigree dry because it has corn and wheat.
Here is my dog,Lulu;she is 6 years old and very healthy. :)

Wienerschnitzel.
.
Canidae or WolfPack organics. Shepherds tend to have allergies to corn and other fillers, so they need a high quality diet that does not contain the unneeded fillers. Both foods are made for all like stages, so you never have to worry about switching from a pupy to an adult formula.
we give are German shepherd wagg it only 10 pounds from pets at home.
we put it down in the morning but most off the time he wont eat it till evening.
and now and again we give him rice pudding because he was under weight when we got him.
