The lady I babysit for has a lil puppy(don't know how old) that barks all day long when home alone during the day and she's got some notices that if it doesn't stop she'll have to move. What are some things she can do. She's tried a crate but the dog still barks, just letting the dog stay in her daughters room but the dog just got into the window and barked. She can't get another dog her apartment only allows one. Someone told us to use a muzzle that you could get one that they could still drink and eat out of but can't bark. Is this true?

Sounds like the dog is lonely. Try leaving on the TV or radio. If that doesn't work, you might want to try getting a dog trainer to work with the puppy. Muzzle doesn't sound like the right thing to do - don't' do that one. I would say worse case, they do have doggie med's that relax the dog --- only do that in the worst case scenario and if the vet recommends it.
Good luck. I think the puppy is just lonely.
Have her contact a rescue group in her area (you can usually locate one on Petfinder.com or by calling your local humane society) and tell them the situation. Perhaps one of the volunteers would (A) take the puppy and babysit it during the day, or even all week, returning the dog to her on the weekends, or (B) train the dog (while the owner is working each day) until it no longer had this behavior.
Good luck! :)
leave alot of things for the dog to play with and chew on. I used to leave the TV on with animal planet on during the day. These things kinda distract the puppy and doesn't leave it with nothing to do. It will stop over time, puppies tend to get scared when left alone. Hope things work out.
She should find a good trainer for the dog.. and give it plenty of toys to play with while she is away. A treat ball.. a ball on a string tied to a washing line.. lots of hidden treats around the yard. . anything to keep it entertained.
talk to a vet
Muzzles aren't good for a long period of time. Instead, get the dog a bark collar. Don't get the one that shocks the dog, get one that beeps or sprays a mist of citronella every time she barks. It will discourage her a lot. Also, she might have separation anxiety really bad. Your friend could take her to the vet and get anti-anxiety medication for her so she'll calm down. I would also recommend making sure you exercise the dog enough that she's very tired at the end of the day. Sometimes they bark from excess energy built up. You could also take the pup during the day while you're watching the kid. Just an idea.
Dogs aren't cats. They can't be alone all day, especially puppies. Puppies should only be left alone the number of hours times their age (1 month old, they should be left alone for only 1 hour ... possibly 2 hours depending).
Dogs bark for many reasons, but I'm willing to bet the reason this dog is barking is because he's not getting any attention. Instead of getting another dog, why doesn't the lady find a good home for this puppy? A home where the puppy will get plenty of attention and training?
Don't get a dog if you're not ready for the responsibility!
That's a little inhumane, however there are Bark Boxes that dog will bark but the box defuses the noise. I have a neighbor who had that problem. Is a small box attached to a collar and it does not harm the animal at all check at PETCO. I love animals and I know this is very safe for the dog.
Good luck
our dog barks when she is bored. They do make muzzles for that. But I leave toys and squeakers and chewy things out or in her crate and she doesnt bark anymore
No a muzzle isn't a good idea.. Training the dog to be quiet, or finding the dog a new home, or finding a new home are the only solutions.
The best thing they can do is get a trainer to teach the dog not to bark. A professional in dog behavior will be able to figure out why the dog is barking. It could be separation anxiety - or it could be that it's a PUPPY left home alone all day.
hire a dog sitter who can double as a housekeeper. No heavy cleaning chores just maybe the dishes or dusting.
