What do we do?

My fiances mom and dad have a dog and no longer can take care of it, and unfortunately we cannot bring her into our home, so we have to find an animal shelter or some place to take her, does anyone have any suggestions? (we live in So. California) Please no mean comments, this is serious..thank you all for your help.

Def check with no-kill shelters. Regular shelters can put an animal down as soon as three days after taking them in!
Also, you should be able to get a list of breed specific dog rescues.(Say if it was a baegle; call the Beagle Rescue)
Good Luck,sorry you can't keep the doggie : /
TRy and find her a home, even if you have to board her for a week or so, you could make flyers and ask anyone you know. if thats not an option, please take her to a no kill facility.
I suggest put a add in the paper, classifieds. Tell them all details as much as possible. However, your chances are slim, because not many people want t adopt a older dog. Unless it is a full blooded maybe. Please don't put him in a shelter...He will die.
Bring it to the Helen Woodward Animal Shelter. Very nice place! They are a no-kill shelter and will try their best to adopt the doggie to a perfectly matched home! http://www.animalcenter.org/
Good Luck!
Your best bet is to find a family member or family friend to take care of the dog. Once you grow attached to a dog it becomes a part of the family... It would be way to painful to take it to the pound or somthing. Another good way is to put an ad in the paper and find a young girl or boy who wants a dog. I would feel better that if i had to get rid of a pet it would at least be going to someone who would really enjoy having him or her!
Please try to find a friend or family member to take the dog. That will be so much less stressful for both the dog and his parents. If you can afford it, and his parents still live at home, hire a service to come in twice a day to feed and walk the dog. That would be the lest stressful for all. Good luck.
i'm not going to be mean if the dog is old put him to sleep, he weil be better than if you take him to a kennel because he will be put to sleep, but if he is young give the dog to someone that you know will take care of him. good luck to you and your dog.
If it was me, I would post notices of a free dog to a good home.
Then I would be absolutely fastidious about ensuring that he was going to a good home. Even visiting homes of prospective applicants. If they are responsible dog lovers they wont object.
Ask yourself, if you were a dog would you want to live there?
This is just a possibility but, it the dog well behaved, housebroken, spayed or nutered and shots up tp date? Sometimes nursing homes or facilities like this are looking for a calm, gentle and well behaved pet. You could ask around about this option.
i would give it to a close friend that can have a dog. i had to give away my teacup Yorkie because we also couldn't take care of him. my other dog was to jealous! i gave my dog to a good friend! hope this helps, Dog lover
Hi. You didn't mention what type of dog she is. There are many rescue organazations for breed specific dogs. There are also no kill shelters. If you bring the dog to the Humane Society it is not guaranteed that she will find a new home. If she doesnt' find a new home unfortunately she will be put to sleep. You might also want to call your local PetSmarts. On Saturdays they have adoptions you could bring her down there and see if you can find her a new home. Also you could put an ad in the newspaper. Do not say that she is Free. Charge some amount but don't list the amount. This is to protect you and her from people who scan the newspapers looking for free animals so that they can sale them to research facilities. Finally check with the Vet that has been taking care of her. Good luck to you and your parents in finding her a new home.
If worse comes to worse, take her to a no-kill animal shelter, where they will put her up for adoption. But first, try and find her a home. You can put an ad in the paper. If that's too expensive, try the penny saver. It's very inexpensive to place an ad in there. Also, hit all the veterinarians in the area. Make up some fliers and ask if you can post one up on a board in their offices. Most will say yes. When you post there, take her with you. Maybe a vet tech fall in love with her and want to adopt her for themselves! Also, ask everyone you know to ask everyone THEY know. You can also put a free ad at www.craigslist.com. You can click on the city where you're living so everyone will see the ad that lives in your area. You can repost the add every two days. I wish you the best of luck. I live in Texas now but I was born and raised in southern California..I'm always happy to help out another Californian! Take care.
try the scpa its fixes thme and give it away to other people who want pets
Check your local humane society, as well. If you surrender him/her to an animal shelter, after a period of time they will put it down. The humane society generally cares for the animal until adopting it out to a good home.
