She is a dog that belongs to a family member with a mental disability and we are taking care of her for the next year while he is in a rehab location. Not sure what has made her do this but even when you are just talking nicely to her she lays her ears back, squints her eyes, squats down and pees as she is running away. I have tried everything possible to gain her trust even so far as babying her way more than I do my own dog but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions? BTW, it is really starting to get annoying as my carpet is getting absolutely ruined!!

It sounds like the dog has never been socialized. Don't reprimand her----as this is an instinctive behavior %26 frightening her will make it worse. Start taking her to obedience classes %26 working with her, and make sure she has a secure bed or crate where she can be. She's obviously been through emoi=tional trauma herself. By learning obedience %26 getting praised for doing what you want, she'll build confidence %26 will ultimately 'grow out of' this submissive behavior.

there are diapers for dogs that you can get at your local vet.
The dog obviously gets scared easily - like a wussy(cat).
Her bladder will not come into control unless she acquires a sense of mental strength and confidence.
It would be worthwhile to take her to the vet to make sure she doesn't have a urinary tract infection. These make dogs pee a lot.
Otherwise, be careful not to punish her for it, or she'll get more afraid of you. Instead, take her to an obedience class so she can build her confidence. She needs to get more confident so she can trust you and not be so scared she pees every time she sees you.
Ignore the peeing, don't make a fuss about it. And don't baby her.. Don't ignore her but be hmmm.. indifferent.. Don't keep trying to get her to be close, she'll come around when she is ready to trust you. There is only 2 reasons why another animal would reach towards you in the wild.. One is to kill and the other is to breed.. She is taking flight because you are making her nervous..

To be honest, that is a really hard thing to break, especially if the dog was someone elses first. I think you should just wait til you give the dog back and then get your carpet cleaned. I hope someone else can give you a better answer. Good Luck!
The worst thing you can do is baby her, because then in a dogs mind your rewarding the behavior, try to ignore her, my dog used to do the same thing all the time when she was younger but when I saw that she was getting nervous or acting weird I ignored her until she calmed down, then I would pet her, and she hasn't done it in a long time. You might wanna watch the dog wisperer on A%26E cuz he gives great advise for training dogs, and maybe theres a way you can find an answer on his web site.

It sound like she has a nervous condition causing this. Take her to the vet and they can perscribe medication to help with bladder control. Kind of like a doggie Detrol!
My dog used to be scared of a lot more things than he is now. He'd even be afraid of dogs that are 1/4 of his size. Whenever he got really scared (even of a little dog) he would pee. I've found that exposing him more to his fears actually got him to calm down and realize they weren't that scary. He's been going to the park a lot and socializing with other dogs and thus is no longer scared of them.
He was also afraid of heights and stairs, but being around those a lot also cured those fears. Whatever the dog is afraid of I say just let it become more acquainted with it. As more time passes and the dog is around you more it'll become used to you and gradually the fear will lessen.
This poor dog has obviously been frightened and traumatized, how sad.
Be gentle with her, don't directly confront her if you can help it, let her come to you.
Take her outside before you deal with her and walk her so she can pee there.
There are doggie diapers if it really gets bad.
Once your carpet is peed on, you need to neutralize the odor - not just clean it, or she will smell the urine and think that's the place to pee.
You may need to keep her in a room with no carpet until she isn't so afraid anymore - this is called "submissive piddling" and believe, me, it is worse for the dog who is terrified than it is for you.
