There is a dog that lives on my street. Her name is Nella. Nella is not abused I dont think, but the owners let her loose around the neighborhood. I dont know if she gets fed because she is skinny. She is FILTHY since she is never in the house. I want to give her a shower with my hose, but I dont know if she would like it. I give her food and water EVERY DAY. All The stupid Animal Control Center will do is put her 2 sleep, and she is a VERY happy dog. She has no problems with her whatsever. My parents will let me take care of her, but we cant adopt her. She comes over my house almost everyday. Does have any ideas how to entertain her? I was thinking ill play with the sprinkler and hopfully she will join and get wet and get a little cleaner. If not, I may spray her with the hose. Anyways, I just need ideas how to help this dog's life better when she comes to visit. Does anybody have any ideas?

Wow, what a nice person you are. I thought I was the only one who was like that.
Entertainment: My dogs love to chase a tennis ball. You can usually get a package of three at the local dollar store for a buck. Don't get them at the pet store, they charge too much.
Make sure if she is playing in this heat that she gets plenty to drink. I'm glad to hear that you are feeding her too.
Another thing you can get at the dollar store is a rope toy. My dogs love to chew on those for hours.
Since you are taking care of her already, it would make sense to just ask the neighbor if you could have her. You couldn't just take her even though the neighbors are neglectful as dogs are actually considered property and nothing else. That makes me sick. I wish your parents would let you ask your neighbor, but it sounds like you are doing the best you can. Thanks for caring for her.
I would try to find someone like a friend or a relative to take it
Even more than being clean...unless it is causeing a health problem for her... a dog needs love and attention. They are called mans best friend for a reason, the companionship that they give and want. Playing with this dog and spending time with her will do more for her than you could ever know! That alone is giving her a better life! And she won't ever forget you!!
Your best bet is to contact your local ASPCA (they are a no-kill organization).

I would not bring her into your home, especially because she has never been inside. It could be frightening and overwhelming for her.
Poor girl... no dog deserves to be neglected. It annoys me that so many irresponsible and ignorant people have dogs. Owning a dog is a privilege, not a right.
Thanks for caring so deeply for her well-being. :)
i dint think the animals control will put her to sleep like you said. why dint you go ask the dog owner to let you have the dog and give it to someone who could take care of it.
Since she loves coming to see you, I'd play with her and just love on her. As for playing in the water, that's a good idea. Then when she's really wet, I'd get some dog shampoo and wash her...
Clean her up and find her a good home..
okay, if you spary her with the hose that might just scare her off. Don't worry about her being dirty. Just keep doing what you are doing. You could try to play ball wiht her. (oh and uaully the animal control gives the dog a week) If you know someone who is willing to adopt her, call the animal control and tell them the dog runs loose. After they keep her for a day or so and no one claims her then let the perso who is willing to adopt her adopt her. The person has to be commited to taking care of her. You could try contacting the owners of the dogs and telling them that you are going to call the pound if they do not start taking care of their dog. That probably will just make them mad though. The point is, it's not your dog to take care of. If your family will not let you adopt it then leave it alone. It might be better that the animal control does pick it up. It could get adopted.
That is so sweet of you to reach out to an animal in need. I don't know the laws in your state, as far as animal control goes, but if no animal abuse is going on, and the dog is not aggressive, I don't see why they would put her to sleep. The owners need to get ticketed for having a dog roam around. If you feel comfortable talking to the owners, I am sure they would be happy for you to take care of their dog, considering they are unfit animal owners. I am sure Nella would love to be your dog, keep up the good work and maybe you could convince your parents to keep her. I love the sprinkler idea. Good luck!
i had a dog like this that would not leave my yard - so i started feeding her and eventually chained her up - her ears were a mess and her coat was dirty - if i were you i would buy some cloths at the store to clean dogs ($4.99) u dont even have to wet the animal -
or if you have a small kiddie pool you could fill it up and try to call the dog in there -
if she comes over and lets you pet her and feed her i doubt she would attack you from useing the hose -
i eventually just poured water on my stray a few times until she got used to it - eventually she was fine and she would just come to me n let me do it - just make sure the hose is on a sprinkle like you said or a shower setting you dont want anything with a lot of pressure to set her off and scare her - she may run the first time - and the second but try and do not chase her with it she may think u are chasing her off-
I think you are doing really all you can do. You can give her treats, brush her, maybe even buy her a new coller or something. I really think you should talk to the owner, and tell him/her that he/she is abusing the dog by not taking care of her/him. Why can't you adopt it? Since it is used to being outside, you dont have to bring it inside (If some1 in ur home is allergic.?), and it kinda already IS your dog, since you are taking care and feeding it. Ask the owners if you can have her! (If it is OK with your family.)
Well, I really want to thank you for taking care of this dog, and trying to keep it clean! At least there are still some people who care like you. Thank you!

ADDITIONAL:
I just read your "add-on," and so i think you should offer them to BUY the dog out of their hands, and tell them YOU really care about the dog, and would take care of it, 'cuse you already do, anyway!
Maybe save a little and offer like 50 or 100 dollers for the dog. They probably WANT to get rid of it anyway.
do not spray her with the hose as she will associate this as a negative experience.
get to know her and play with her once she allows you to leash her eventually she will allow a bath. Best to use a muzzle for the first time.
And by feeding her you are already her caretaker so you might as well put her in the back yard.
I find it amazing you would refer to animal control as "stupid" My question is did animal control starve this dog? allow it to roam free? not provide vet care?
Animal shelters have limited space and do not have the time to rehab severely abused animals. There are some shelters that will rehab some severely abused animals but these shelters have volunteers who take on this responsibility in their homes. So instead of keeping a dog with severe emotional and physical problems they choose to keep the adoptable animals as they are most likely to find a home. Very rarely will someone adopt an animal in poor condition. In fact many adopters come in like they are going to a pet store and start making off the wall request. So do your homework before making snap judgments about someone.
My last bit of advise is volunteer at your local shelter and check out the other side before making snap judgments about your animal control agency.
have you witnessed them being loving to her? maybe you should ask them if you can have her? they might not mind. or if you can't adopt her, ask them if they mind if you give her a shower. tell them you think it might be fun and ask them how she behaves with water. If you call animal controll maybe they can contact your neighbors and give them a warning about putting her on a leash when she's outside their property. If she has food, water and shelter, animal control won't take her away anyway. Good luck, hopefully she'll end up staying in your property because she likes you better.
I would go talk to them and tell them how attached the two of you are and see if you could share her. If that doesn't work, just take care of her when you are there. giving her a bath wouldn't hurt a thing.
The hose or sprinkler might frighten her... it might not, but most dogs LOVE a kiddie pool.
IF you can find a small inexpensive one, she would probably love it. Especially if it is as hot where you are as it is here!
Does your town have a leash law? Most do. Sad to say, but Animal Control may get her anyway if she runs loose.
well take care of her when she comes to ur house, just act like she is ur pet..she loves u more i bet.
