What can I expect to pay for a rottweiler? A German Shepherd?

I know I should get all my dogs from the pound. My last 4 were from the their or rescued animals.
Im ready for a purebred

to answer your question and not get on the ''pulpit" about adoption...(since you have gotten enough of those already) the cost of a GSD varies depending on the line and the breeder. I personally paid $1200 for a German working line GSD. fully papered (which really doesn't matter anyway) though he came from parents that were Sch 3 and his father was trained in bomb detection hip and elbows normal.so the question for you is are you willing to pay for a good quality dog? sure there are some out there that are cheaper. but what are the backgrounds of the parents? are they (the parents) proven in the show ring or Schutzhund? are there health guarantees? these are questions you are going to have to ask when you decide on the breed. if a breeder can not answer these simple answers..RUN! the dog may be cheap in the beginning...but you will pay for it later on with health issues. .just something to keep in mind...I hope you find the dog of your dreams! Good Luck!
a rottweiler will kill you or somebody you care about...dont get one of those animals...they are dangerous
Then do an online search for Rottie or Shepherd rescues and adopt one.
There are many breed rescues and it is no problem at all getting a pure bred. Pure breds lose their homes all to often, through no fault of their own. There is no reason not to continue adopting.
Good luck - hope you find the perfect pet.
25% of dogs in pounds are purebred
why not try petfinder.com
type in your zip code and the breed you want
The cost of a purebred can very depending on where you live etc. I know here in Colorado we do not have many Rottweiler breeders so it can get expensive because personally I would have to get one out of state. However from what I have found most breeders would charge between $400-$1000(for both breeds) depending on parents 'show' quality, if they are sailing breeding rights with them they can end up costing alot more. to locate some quality Breeders there is a website called "NextDayPets" that would show you a verity of of breeders.
well depending on do you a German Rottweiler or American Rottweiler they differ in price range , my friend bought a German Rottie and he paid $500.00 but no papers so I don't think he made a wise decision and for German Shepard I'm not sure . Rotties are very friendly dogs if you raise them well.
check out this

they heave all the info on Rotties and the difference between the German Rottie and American Rottie , German Shepard .
Good luck on your decision .
I have a Female full breed german shepherd. But they run from about $250 to about $1000.Mostly its about $500 or $600.But I was lucky we didnt have to pay for Jamie(my dog)but im the biggest German Shepherd Fan you will meet!lol
There are plenty of purebreds in shelters and rescue groups - 25% of dogs who enter shelters are purebreds. GSDs and Rotties are by no means rare breeds either. If you can't find the dog your looking for at your local humane society, ask them for the contact information of breed rescue groups in your area who rescue GSDs and Rotties. Also check out www.petfinder.org - I'd be really surprised if you couldn't find a GSD or Rottie in your area.
I would still encourage you to adopt from a shelter. On any given day 25% of all dogs in shelters are purebred. Look into breed specific rescues. You may be able to get a great purebred for half the cost of one from a breeder.
try http://www.petfinder.com to see what is out there.
If you go with a breeder, make sure you buy from someone reputable and not a back yard breeder. Reputable breeders only breed champion show dogs that are good examples of the breed standard. The parents have papers showing their ancestory back at least 3 generations, and they have been tested for temperment and common genetic diseases that can be passed on to puppies.
Here is a good link to help you tell if the breeder you choose is reputable or not.

As far as cost, I have seen purebred rotts and shephards go for anywhere from $50.00 in rural shelters to $500.00 in inner city shelters. I would imagine breeders will charge you more than this for a quality dog.
A GREAT way to find out (and also get help regarding handling etc.) is to contact the breed specific rescues. Pricing even for perfect specimens properly papered can vary widely by region.
For a rottie i payed $450 for mine.
i have a rottweiler who is 12 now, i paid $ 550 for him !! they are very expensive now.but you can also get one,at a rottweiler rescue organization. so I'd have to go with rottweiler.German Sheppard shed way to much !
