What can i do for my poor puppy?

MY dogs ear is itching, well unless he is trying to get to his brain from his ear. Anyways he wont stop scratching his ear and shaking his head. HE did this the other night to and it woke me up then too. I just kinda waved that off becosue he eventually quit. BUT he is doing it again. What do you think this could be. Does my poor puppy have allergies. Could it be an ear infection or does he have ear mights. Any ideas.

ear mites look like black pepper. does he have that? an ear infection is mostlikely the cause-especially if you didnt finish out the medicine!
a dogs ear canal is shaped kinda like an 'L' you cant see all the way down but alot could be going on on that bottom ridge where you cant see. take him back to the vets and tell them everything! if you let an ear infection go it could lead to hearing loss. and make sure you use all the meds this time-if it breaks again tell the vets and he can help you figure something out. until then a warm wet cloth will help to clean it just make sure no water gets in. you could try 90% alcohol and cottom balls-alcohol is thinnner than water and will dry if some were to get down on the ridge but dont rely on just that and not get him to the vets b/c alcohol can over time really dry out the ear causing yet another problem-yeast.
when dogs lay they are relaxing and can feel everythng they usually dont when they are active b/c thier mind isnt being occupied. like having an achy muscle, you dont really feel it until you have stopped moving around for the time being. that is PROBABLY why he does this more at night but not def. get him to the vets and i hope all goes well.
Labs are very prone to ear infections. Take the dog to the vet.
my dog has ear issues. sounds like an ear infection. you need to take him to the vet for some ear drops. until you can get there i would take a luke warm wash cloth and wipe out his ears to clean out any dirt in there and it eases it alittle bit.
He could have an ear infection. I have a yellow lab that has had that problem before. Take him to the doctor and get meds to flush out his ears.
Sounds like something might be in it. He might need his ears cleaned out. You can go to your vet and ask them for this ear wash/drops. But it would be a good idea if you take him into the vet just to get it checked out, it might be an ear infection too. Good luck
There is a possibilty of mites but there is also a possibilty of foxtails in his ear canal which are weed seeds that have tiny barbs on them and the more movement around them, the deeper they will go and they WILL penetrate the skin! He should see a vet about this at the very latest by Monday, many vets have hours on Saturdays as well. This is something I would not risk waiting. Take him in and have him scoped to rule out the most dangerous things.
Could be ear mites. The best way to find out is to take him to the vet and have it checked.
It sounds like your puppy has ear mites.
You can get a ear drop medication from your vet for this and it clears up right off.
Or, if you want to try this first.
Warm some olive oil so it鈥檚 just warm to the touch.
Make sure it isn鈥檛 too hot.
Dip a cotton swab in the oil, and VERY GENTLY clean out your puppy's ears, never going farther into the ear than you can see.
If you need to have someone else hold the puppy down, gently.
Give it a few minutes rest in between ears.
The cotton swabs will be all black and brown covered with yuck, but just keep cleaning with new ones until they come abck clear.
After you鈥檙e done, put a very small amount (like 1/2 a teaspoon) of rubbing alcohol in the ear and rub the pups ears deeply.
Protect yourself during this whole procedure as the pup will shake it鈥檚 head and shower you with ear guck.
If this doesn鈥檛 help, get to the vet for the ear drop medication.
Where I live we use the above method all the time and it works great, but, hard to say what issue you鈥檙e dealing with.
All in all even if the pup has an infection, nothing I鈥檝e stated above will hurt.
Good Luck!
It is probably ear mites - take him to the vet and they can give you medication for them
sounds like something wrong with his ear. take him to the vet
simple vet exam and meds will ease your dogs discomfort,, what on earth are you waiting for???
antibiotics are a measured dose. you don't just throw part of it away. no wonder the dog still has an infection.
Whether it be an infection or mites, still take your animal to the Vet. Would you like to be in constant discomfort or pain? I'm thinking no. So instead of hounding us with more details, get off your butt and take your dog to the vet. If you don't a more serious problem can develop. GO. VET. NOW!!
Try cleaning the ear with alcohol to kill yeast.
Apart from an ear infection and ear mites, your dog might have something in his ear, like a grass seed. This is very irritating %26 painful for the dog which will shake his head, scratch at his ear, and hold his head to one side. If the object is not removed by a vet, it can cause permanent damage. If he has an infection, this could also permanently damage the ear if it's not treated.
Considering how sensitive ears are to pain (I'm sure you've had an earache in your life, and know how they feel) your dog would appreciate prompt treatment I'm sure.
Take him to the vet. If you guess, and you're wrong, your poor dog will be the one to suffer for it!
